REPORT ON C( W. L. Gray Writes of Res Held at Ne '.Mr. W. L. Gray, 'who went as a dele gate from this state to the big cotton meeting in New Orleans recently, has owritten the following letter to the farmers of the county in regard to it:, "According to appointment I at tended the New Orleans Cotton Asso ciation Convention. This, as you know, was a conference composed of delegates from all the cotton growing States. It's object was to promote and organize a corporation for the purpose of exporting and handling cotton direct for the cotton growers of the South. There were present men representing all the business activi ties of the cotton belt, who took part in the deliberations of the meeting. The organization of the export corpor ation was effected, committees ap pointed to draft and secure the char ter, and to formulate iplans, and to raise the capital stock which 'was fixed at a minimum of One Hundred \Million Dollars. The par value of a share is Fifty IDbIlars. The reason for this being fixed at so small an amount, was to enable the - small farmer to become a stockholder and to provide that the subscription might .be plaid with Liberty Bonds of a like sum. It -was said that the small farmers could exchange them at par. The capital stock is to be hedged about with such legal restrictions as to make it impossible for a majority of the stock to pass from the control of the cotton growers of the South. There was also a committee of ex perienced business men appointed to consider, formulate and report to the convention, the best plans for financ ing and warehousing the cotton crop of the Southern States, which report recommnended a uniform system of ITTON MEETING ults of Big Cotton Meeting !W Orleans. warehouses and warehouse receipts to be used throughout the cotton belt, which would appeal both to the State and National Governments for their endorsements. The report was unani mously adopted. The committee on acreage roduc tion, after an exhaustive examination of all data in hand, reported an av erage reduction 18.3 per cent less this year, and a reduction of about one-third in guano used on the cot ton crop. A harmonious atmosphere pervaded every session of the conference, which 'was manifested when the organization asked for Twelve Thousand Dollars to finance the preliminary charter and secure the stock. The amount was subscribed and 'paid in thirt.y miin utes. The chairman of the Califor nia delegation, a woman, promptly notified the convention that she was ready to take care of her State finan cially and otherwise. The consensus of opinion of those best capable of judging, as expressed when the meeting was adjourned, was that the results of this convention when fully developed, would stabilize the price of cotton, fix the price of cotton production on a profitable basis, enable the cotton growers of the South to retire from the market any time all distress cotton, and hold same off the market till the do mand would call for such cotton at a fair 'price. The last opinion that pre vailed, and which is of greater im portance than all others, was: that these results could be attained only by a determined and unanimous co-opera tion of the cotton growers throughout the belt. The adniralty immediately sent out a fast torpedo boat destroyer in an endeavor to intercept the Mary and take off the aviators. There was an anxious wait of several hours, when the word was flashed that the de stroyer had come across the steamer and transferred Ilawker and Grieve and was taking them to Thurso, on the nothern coast of Scotland about 0 0i) miles east of the 1utt of Lewis. The destroyer, the Revenge, re ported to the admliralty this evening that IHawker and Grieve would sleep on board tonight. The aviators will reach Loandon at 7 o'clock 'I'uesday evein i g. The news of the rescue has eleclri lied all Britain. All destroyers, af ter a tholroigh search of the Atlantic for 30) miles from the Irish coast had given i up the quest and there was practically no hope that the aIrmen wvere alive. Tihis morning, however, the forlorn hope that tile aviat Lors m 1gh t he pick ed u1p by some craft witliouit wire less was realized. The Danish steam er .lary, crawling along at nine knots was the lucky vessel, and her brief message to the watchers at the Buitt of Lewis, as she proceeded on her way to Scotland left tile public to speculate wonderingly over the de taIls of the airmen's adventures. The adniralty inimediately dis patched destroyers from northern points to intercept tile Mary and the ililhy .lail instructed all signal sta tions to try to commuinicate wIth the captain with the urgent refilest. to land the aviators at some Scottish vort. The admiralty qluest succeeded, and a wireless message came from the destroyer Woolson late in the even ing that she had overtaken the Mary and had transferred the avia tors. Nothing except some great battle has excited London more than to day's unexpected tidings. The pulblic was disposed to question wehtliher the first, report could be trusted, and the admiralty statement that it was tak ,ing measures to verify the report In dicated doubt which the Woolson'S message dispelled.
