The National Food Administration is anxious to impress the message of conservation to the utmost. The. peo ple of the country at largo do not ap preciate the demand for whoat. 'ie Food Administration at Washington has atlessed the situation in this na tion wide proclamation: "If we are to furnish the allies with the necossaty proportion of wheat to maintain their war bread from now until the next harvest, and this is a military necessity, we must reduce our monthly consumption to twenty one million bushels a month as against our normal consumption of about for. ty-two million bushels or fifty per cent of our normal consumption, reserving a margin for distribution to the army and for special casos, leaves for gen oral conaumption approximately one an one-half pounds of wheat products woolly per person. Many of our cus tomers are dependent upon bakers' bread, such bread must be durable, and therefore requires a larger pro portion of wheat products than cereals baked in the household. Our army and navy requires a fill allowance. The well to do in our population can make greator sacrifices in the con sumption of wheat products than can the poor.
