E. church :f this place Friday. iPresiding Eider Stackhousco met with them and re turned again Sunday afternoon to preach. His sermon was much en Ioyed. The congregation also had the privilege of hearing a very fine ad diress on Y. M. eC. A. work by Mr. Sul livan of Laurens. The church and ommunity appreciate their work and are interested in its advancement. The flower show at Woodruff was well attended by the ladies from here. We are proud of one of our girls, Miss Nannie May Lanford, as she won four prizes on her beautiful flowers. Mrs. C. L. Waldrep and children made a delightful trip to Henderson ville. N. C. to visit her sisters, Mrs. J. I, . flyers and Mrs. Frank Randall, al so her aunt, Mrs. T. R. DeShields. The W. M. 1'. meeting met with War rior, Mrs. 0. F. Fowler, Mrs. T. A. Drumnituond, M.\rs. C. D. Cox, 'Mrs. J. S. iiggins and Miss Carry Lou Higgins attending froi here. The programn was very instructive as well as heli ful. A. work among. the soldiers was be gun here Sunday morning.' A meeting was held for that purpose at the Bap tist church at I1 o'clock, presided ov er by R. A. Austin, township chairman. I! Splendid addresses in which the Y. \I. C. A. work was explained and strong appeals were made for help I were delivered by Mr. A. C. Todd and Hon. R. A. Cooper of Laurens. Othei talks were made by a few others I present. Over $340.00 was subscrib- c ed on the spot and committees were appointed to continue the campaign t work during the week. A very good congregation greeted I the speakers and every one seemed at- I tentive and interetsd. The impression left upon the minds of at least some of the audience by the meeting is that the Y. M. C. A. work among the sol diers is the best substitute for home life yet undertaken in behalf of the boys who have left their home environ ments. It is expected that Cross 11111, as well as Laurens county, will do her full share in this 4xcellent work. Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. .1.
