Tihe County exem-ption board, coi
posed of It. A. Cooper, C. A. Power
and Dr. J. 11. Teague, .who have been
diligently at work since the lirst day
of registration, yesterday completed
their task of passing on the first '450
1nen called for examination and no
tices have been mailed to all regis
trants as to the disposition of their
cases. Those who have not been ex
emllpted oi aly count are inst ructed
to await notice from the district ex
emption board for firther action. The
local board has no friller purisdlic
tion in their cases.
About 15 per cent of the Laurens
conlity registrants were exempted by
the local board on account of phy
sicta disu(1alilleations. 2.1.1 were cer
tilled to the( distr'ict board as not sulb
ject to exemption and file remainder
were diqualified on account of de
pendent families. All claims as to
exemption on account of occupation,
which were few in ni umber, will have
to go before the district board. Ten
men who were in the first call have
already enlisted in some branch of the
service. The (olulty receives nio ed
it for them on the irst call, but will
be credited oil file second call. There
fore, the first 225 of the 2.1.1 not ex
elipted, unless somie appeals are sus
tained 1 by lie district board, will be
su hiect to draft for the national armiy.
In all probability 30 per cent of this
ni umber will be called on Sept. 5 and
file remainder at short intervals.
South Carolina Iroops will he tirained
at Camp Jackson. at Coimbia.
