go to Columhia at an early (late and
make a persoinal a ppieal to Covernor
Manning to commut the sentence to
life imprisonment. Mr. Featherstone
stated this morning that he had given
Tolhert's case' caroful tihought and
he is thoroughly convinced that the
man was of unsound mind when lIe
killed his wife and that lie has made
no improvement since. "I do not be
lieve that Tolbert should be turned
loose on the community," Mr. Feather
stone stated, "but I do think that he
should not pay the death penalty."
Sheriff NIC.\IlIan, at Mr. Feather
stones' request. will write a letter to
Governor .Alanning in which lie will
state that lie too is convinced that
Tolbert is unsound mentally. .\r. Me-c

first pllaced in jail he helieved lie was
feigning, but de is confldenit nowv that
the pirisoner is very weak mentally.

slon since observing Tholbert closely
