Miss Estelle Taylor, of Princeton, Is spending some time In the city with her sister and brothers. Messrs Eddie Hicks and Brooks Childress have returned home after a business trip to Tennessee. Mrs. Harvie Woods, of the Eden section, is visiting for a few days at the homo of Mrs. J. S. Dennett on West Main street. Weathers, who has been quite sick at his home for some time, remains very ill. Ills many friends hope for an early recovery. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Terry and son, of Rocklngham, N. C, have been the guests for the past week of Mr. H. Terry and Mr. R. B. Terry. Miss Lottie Leister, of Westminister, Md., who is visiting her sister, Mrs. S. R. Dorroh, at Woodruff, spent the week-end in the city with Mrs. W. T. Dorroh. Mt. j. E. Minter of Sedalia was ov er Sunday to see his father, Capt. j. E. Minter, who has been quite sick for several weeks. The many friends of Capt. Minter will be glad to know that he is Improving each day. Mrs. C. H. Hicks and little Miss Katherino havo gone to Sevlerville, Tonn., where they will he the guest of relatives for several weeks. They were accompanied by Mrs. Hicks" brother, Mr. Roy Trotter, who has been visiting In Laurens. Kershaw chapter, U. D. C. Monday afternoon, the program being devoted to Robert E. Lee and "Stone wall" Jackson, whose birthdays imme diately precedod and followed tho day of meeting. A very attractive program was carried out, after which refresh ments were served. no? Wallace-Bolt. Miss Melle Bolt, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Bolt, was married yes terday at noon at the home of her parents, to Mr. M. Gary Wallace, of tho Shiloh section of the county, a number of the relatives and Intimate friends of the contracting parties be ing present. Rev. J. K. McCain, of Gray Court, performed the ceremonies. The bride is an accomplished and at tractive young woman with many lov able traits of character, being very popular wherever known. Mr. Wal lace is a successful young farmer of | the county and is held in the highest esteem by all who know him. After an lnfare at the home of the bride's par ents, the young couple left for their future home, followed by the best wishes of their many friends. I)LATH AT CROSS HILL. Mr. IL R. Austin, Prominent Citizen, Hied There on the 15th. Cross Hill. Jan. IS.?Mr. B. R. Aus tin died at his home here last Wed nesday night, Jan. IBth. He had been unwell for several days and had some heart trouble. Mr. Austin was 10 years old and leaves a wife and sev en children, the youngest only a week old. He had a happy home and was an indulgent father and was very fond of his children. Two brothers and one sister Burvlve, Mr. S. D. Austin .Mid Mrs. J. C. Chandler of Cross Hill and Mr. J. C. Austin of Vidalia. Ga. Mr. Austin was an elder In the Pres byterian church and a substantial cit izen. Interment at the Presbyterian cemetery Friday. Rev. W. D. Ratch ford conducted the service assisted by Rev. J. A. Martin. Pall bearers: ac tive, were his six brothers-in-law, M. A. Leaman, Conway Dial, J. h. Rasor, .1. J. Young. J. C. Chandler and Hugh Fuller; honorary, P. lt. Watts,?F. S. Evans, E. L. Wells, Thomas F. Jones, \V. T. Austin and R. A. Austin. A large crowd of friends and relatives attend ed the funeral. People from Mount ville, Laurens and Waterloo and his friend Thomas F. Jones of Woodruff came to see him buried. The passing of such a man Is a distinct loss to the community. Will Have at Least Seven Delegates to the National Corn Show Miss Wil Lou Gray, rural school supervisor, has been working hard to Interest the schools of the county In the National Corn Show to be held In Columbia this month, and the fol lowing very encouraging letter shows that her work is getting fine results. Leo L?ngsten Goes to the Watte Mill Company Store on Feb. 1st. Mr. J. Lee Langston, will take charge of the company store at Watts mills oa Febuary 1st. The Laurens Mercan tile company, which has been conduc ting the business there for several years, has "quidated a?d the mill it self will go back into tho business which it conducted several years ago. Mr. O'Shields, who has been in charge f the store since Its incorporation, wll move to North Carolina, where he will go into the banking business. Mr. Kingston has been In the store of J. H. Sullivan for nearly twenty years, having gone there when Mr. Sulllvann and Mr. W. L. Gray were partners and he has been there con tinuously since. He Is well equipped to take charge of the big store at tho mill and his friends confidently pre dict that he will make a successful manager of the firm. Tho store has considerable country trade in addition to a large trade from the operatives. Mr. Kingston will take charge of the tsore the first of February. As mana ger of the Watts mill store, Mr. Lang ston will occupy a prominent position in the business life of the city. The promotion came to him unsolicited, and quite unexpectedly. Railroad, Given Supervision of Itoadwork over Whole System. Mr. A. W. Todd, who has been sec tion roadmaster of the C. & W. C. rail road for several years and who is known to he one of the most com petent officials of the road, has been promoted to General Roadmaster of the entire system from Spartanburg to Port Royal and tributaries. The new position was made for Mr. Todd and puts him up among the chief officials of the road, having supervision over maintenance. Improvements and con struction along the line. Mr. Todd has long been regarded as one of the most elllcient men In the employ of the company. Starting at the bottom like the general manager of the company, Mr. A. W. Anderson, he has steadily risen from one posi tion to another until now he Is ac counted one of the most valuable men on the road. Although looking out at all times for the Interest of the com pany, he is held |n tho highest esteem by all of the employees under him, all of the men joining in congratulat ing him upon the promotion. This city will be a loser in the pro motion of Mr. Todd, for his new work will require that he make his home In Augusta, where he will live In the future.
