COLUMBIA READY FOR STATE FAIR Many Exhibit* Already Placed? Greatest Fair Ever Held in South Carolina Indicated. Immense Crowds Expected, Especially Wednesday and Thursday, the "Dig Days". Columbia, October 26.?With the termination of the strike of the car men of the Columbia street Railway yesterday the last wrinkle In the face of prospects has been straightened out and everything is in readiness for the opening of the annual State Fair on Monday morning. Indications are, with the opening only two days off. that this will be the largest and best State Fair ever held, and when it Is remem bered the magnltudu the fai s have reached In the past years some Idea of the bright outlook facing the coin tea State Fair can be obtained. Noth ing but success can be seen at this distance for the Fair. The fair grounds present a lively scene today and everything Is bustle and activity, getting ready for the formal opening on Monday. Cattle, horses, sheep, hogs, all other kinds of live stock, and exhibit.-, machinery and Kuch attractions as are usually seen at the fair have been coining in for the past few days* and they are being put In piace as fast as they reach the grounds. While there are mony final touches to be put to tilings the time for the throwing open of t' < gntts to the fair ground on Mon lay morning ?will find everything ready. Jt is expected that the display In each department of the fair this year will far exceed and surpass that ever seen here at any of the former fairs. The premium list is an attractive one :ind has proved an added incentive to Ibdse Who exhibit at th fair. Principal Exhibits. The livestock department of the Fair this year, the poultry show, the bench show, the exhibits and each and every department is expected to measure up to the Increased standard and give added pleasure and profit to the thou sands of visitors from all over South Carolina, who will gatrer on the grounds of the fair next week. The races this year will be especially at tractive and the breeding of South Carolina blooded horses will be em phasized by the part given to them in the racing programme. This Is done by the fair management with the pur pose in view of encouraging the in creased attention to the growing of blooded horses in this state. As USUali Wednesday and Thursday will be the "big" days, but each day Will be a large one all to Itself. Crowds are expected to throng the fair grounds from the time the gates open Monday until they close at the end of the week, and If the weather Is favor able the expectations of the tremen dous crowds will more than likely be realized. The State Fair has grown to be the one occasion In' South Caro lina when the people from all over the state gather In Columbia to renew ac quaintances, to hold their unnunl re unions and to have a general "good time." "It's a habit with the people" to come here, and those that keep up the rule and make the fair and Co lumbia a visit this year will be glad of It; there Is also much more to see at the fair, and then Columbia Itself Is growing so fast that people will hardly know the Columbia of one \ < ;ir ago. They will feel a justifiable pride In the splendid strides their capital city is maning. Clemson Cadets Coining. The Clemson Cadets will reach the city Monday afternoon, on two special trains and the entire corps, 700 strong will be encamped on the fair grounds throughout the Week, Their tents have already been pitched and everything lc in sltape for their arrival. They art one of the drawing cards of fair week and the people of all the states will be glad to know that they will again have the pleasure of seeing the flue Clem s?n corps this year. The football team of Clemson and the University of South Carolina Wfil meet in a great and mighty struggle on the gridiron at the fair grounds on ; Thrusday of fair week. Both colleges have line teams and the game will be a good one and both sides are confi dent of victory. The thousands of alumni ?and friends of those Institu tions will be on hand to see them play , and to cheer their respective favorites; on to victory. The new-steel building is about half completed and will house part of the exhibits. All the other buildings will be filled and everything Is In readi ness for the opening Monday.
