* ? BAKKSD.VLK NOTES. * ?.**???******?*? Barksdale, March 18.?Mr. Abner Owens died last Wednesday. Ht had been critically ill only a few days, although his health had been declin ing for the past lew mouths. He was about 72 years of age. Mr. Owens was reared on the fam ily plantation near Warrior Creek Baptist church. He was an upright, honorablo citizens, filled with the am bition of doing good to his fellowinan. He is survived by three sons and two daughters. Turner Owens, one of his pons, is an employee In the coal mines in Oklahoma. Messrs Tlllman and John Owens reside here. The daught ers are Mrs. Alice Sommeral and Mrs. J.ida Powers. He is also survived by a widow, who was a Miss Garret, prior to her marriage. The funeral services were conducted at the Warrior Creek church on Thurs day. The burial was made In the church graveyard. The agent for the Home Comfort Stove, Mrs. Bronson, spent several days in this section last week. Mr. Lawrence Withers is able to be out again after an attack of the mumps. The heaviest rain that has fallen In this community since 1!>0S fell Thurs day night. It did much damage to the roads and has hindered the planters from ploughing. Mr. H. Mail Carrier Brooks Goodman Slicks to Duty In Spite of Danger. Mr. Brooks Goodman, rural mail carrier on Mountvllle No. 1, had a j very narrow escape last Friday out near Lisbon while making Iiis regular trip with the mail. When Mr. Good man reached Beaverdam Creek the water was some thirty feet out from the bridge. In some way, Mr. Goodman man aged to get the horse from the buggy and both swam out together to the bank, Some idea of the nerve requir ed and the depth of the water can be seen from the fact that late Friday afternoon the water was so deep that the buggy of Mr. Goodman was en tirely hidden beneath the water.
