Bethel section, was In the city on business Saturday. Miss Bessie Roland has gone to Cheraw, where she will visit her sis ter, Mrs. McLeod. Miss Willie Dorroh, who is teaching at the New Harmony school, spent the week-end at home. Miss Lallah May Dial went to Green wood yesterday to attend a dance giv en in that city last night. Misses Ruth and Ethel Langston left Monday for Clinton where they will visit relatives for a few days. Mrs. H. W. Cosby, Mrs. Dabney Cos by and MIsh Grace Cocko of Virginia aro the guests of Mrs. R. E. Hughes. Mrs. J. Y. Wallace, who has been spending some time In Augusta with her husband, has returned to the city. Miss Lutle Young, who teaches the Copeland school, came Into the city Monday evening to see "Paid In Full". Messrs. 1). A. Davis and W. H. An derson will leave today for the uortb ern markets, where they will purchase spring goods for D&vls-Roper Co. Mrs. W. R. Richey. Jr., and little Sarah Richey, have returned home af ter a pleasant visit in Jacksonville, Fla. Messrs. Charles and Henry Winn, of Clinton, spent Sunday in the city as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Murph. Mrs. J. C. Smith, of Waterloo, and her sister, Mrs. Babb, of the ltabun section, were In the city shopping Thursday. Mrs. L. P. McGce returned home yesterday. evening, after having been treated for several weeks at a Colum bia hospital. Mr. G. Pope Irby, who has been !n ihe city for a few days, returned yes terday to the I'niversity of North Carolina to resume his studies. Miss Mary Sullivan has gone to Greenwood to visit her sister, Mrs. Maxcy McLees and to attend the dance which was to take place last night. Miss Sarah Fuller, of the Beaver Dam section, was among those who came to the city Monday night to wit ness the presentation of "Paid in Full" Mr. Tom Switzer expects to leave Friday for the north to purchase a spring stock of dry goods for Switzer Co. Mr. Richard Ha/.lo and Mr. Jimmic Hazlo from near Mountvllle, and Mr. W. Ii. Ha/.lo of Laurens R. F. D. were among the vsltors in the city Satur day. Rev. J. K. McCain, of Gray Court, was in the city Sunday and preached an Interesting and forceful sermon at the Methodist church at the morning service. Messrs. Gary Culbertson, Fred PearCO and Bernard Henderson, of Waterloo, were In the city Monday night to witness the presentation of "Paid in Pull." Mrs. C. M. Gibbon and Mrs. Mary Johnson, who have been living in Asheville, have moved to the city and aro occupying the brick house next to the Episcopal church. 4 Rev. and Mrs. W. H. Barre have been in Ninety Six for a few days, Whore they went to attend the funeral services over the body of a young child of Mrs. Lipcomb, a relative. The many friends of Leonard Bolt, of the Mt. Gallegher section, who went to the Columbia hospital a week ago for an operation for appendicitis will be glad to know that he Is getting along nicely. Tho many frlonds in every section of the coun?y will regret to hear of the erltionl illness of Mr. D. Casper Smith at his home In Waterloo. He has tieen very 111 for severnl weeks and his phy sicians are very anxious as to his con dition. Mr. Gary A. Eichelberger, much to tho regret of his many friends, has ac cepted a position in Wlnston-Salem, ,N. C, and left for his new post of duty Monday. Though his many friends aro sorry to see him leave Laurens, they aro glad to know that be has ac cepted a very responsible position. Dr. R. E. Hughes spent Monday in ?Columbia attending a mooting of the program committee of the Trl-Stafe Medical Association, which meets there February 21 at and 22nd. Jouesboro, Tear.., Feb. f).?Miss Cor rlne Putnam entertained with progres sive heart dice at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Gelgler Saturday evening, complimentary to Mrs. E. E. Putnam, of Vlriglna Intcrmont college, Bristol, Va. The guest of honor wore a gown of cream embroidered chiffon over messnline. The hostess was gowned In lavender crepe de chine with pearl trimmings. Mrs. (leTger assisted in receiving and wore a handsome blue messallne. Miss Sara Thomas won the prize, a box of candy, which she gracefully presented to the guest of honor. The "booby prize," a bag of assafoetlda enclosed in a beautiful sa tin-lined box, was awarded to George Thomas. After the games, Mrs. Put nam, who is very talented in voice and piano, rendered several selections which were much enjoyed.
