Cowan, of Jefferson City, Tenn., and a member of the firm of Counts & Cowan, has been In the city for several days. Mr. Albert Dial returned Saturday from Jacksonville and other Florida points, where ho has been In the in terest of the glass factory. Mr. J. S. Bailey Of Greenwood, spent Thursday night in tho city as the guest of Mr. Arthur Lee and at tended the concert by the Kilties. Miss Willie May Chlldress has ac cepted a position as teacher of Ralley's school, a few miles from the city, and went out to take up her duties Mon day morning. The friends of Mr. L. G. Dalle, Sr., will regret to lenrn that he has not been as well as might be wished for the past week. For several days past he has been very sick. Mr. W. C. Drown, of Gray Couit Route No. 3, after doing without The Advertiser for some time, dropped Into the office Tuesday and placed his name back on the list. Couldn't do without it. Mr. Joh"? T. X SOCIAL ArTB PERSONAL. | ? $ **** ** ft*****-* * An enjoyable aftermath of ihe pre sentation of "Haul" Tuesday evening, by the Laurens Choral society, was the reception tendered those taking part in it at the home of Dr. and Mrs. .1. H. Toague Friday evening by the sev eral church soeielies. After the par ty had gathered and intermingled for awhile, sev.eral voluntary musical se lections wero rendered and then a "stormy" discussion of affairs affect ing the society was indulged in. The debate was still waxing warmer, when It was interrupted by the Invitation to the dining room, Where all joined nround tho table and enjoyed a de lightful aal ad course followed by cof fee. Repairing again to tho parlor, after a fow moments of pleasant con versation, the absorbing topic was again taken up and solved by a ma jority vote cast almost entirely of the ladies of the socloty aided by several insurgonts from the mal? side. A pleasant feature of the evening was the presentation of two pictures to Mr. and Mrs. Chas H. Hicks by Dr. Toague, on behalf of tho society. Dr. TeagUO expressed to Mr. and Mrs. Illcks the appreciation of tho society for the work that tho two had done In directing tho cantata. Mr. IHcks, evi dontly vory much surprised and over come, expressed in a few words their thanks for the gift. In addition to thoso who took part In the cantata, tho husbands and wives of the married ones wero present and enjoyod the evening. ooo Miss Mayme Ferguson entertained tho Bridge Club Thursday afternoon at her home on West Main street. Ta bles wero prepared for twenty people and after a few rubbers were played a delightful lunch was served. A most enjoyable afternoon was spent by those who woro prosent. ooo Mrs. Brooks Swygcrt entertained the Literary Club Wednesday afternoon, when a pleasant as well as profitable afternoon was enjoyed. She was as sisted in entertaining by Mrs. J. H. Teague. Delightful refreshments wero served during the afternoon. Card of Thanks.
