Sept 18.?Mr. Dwight Smith, a farmer who lives three miles below Mountville, met with a painful accident a few days ago. He and one of his hands were cutting timber when a falling tree, by some means thrown out of its position, fell on his leg, breaking the bone and painfully in juring the ankle joint. He is doing very well now but it will be some time before he is able to walk. Our college students who did not leave last week will start this week for their respective places. Messrs. Charley and Robert Thornton, Eugene Stokes, and Cary Mitchell have gone to Clemson. Robert Thornton having one of the scholarships from this coun ty: Ellis and Fred Fuller go to the Presbyterian College at Clinton; Wil liam Fellers returns to South Caroli na University, while Gr.ady Culbert son resumes his work at Furman. Wil ton Mitchell will enter South Carolina University, while Watts Hudgens, who holds the scholarship In the Military Acadainy of Charleston from this coun ty .goes to that institution. Misses Louise Richardson and Eliza May Sul livan return to Erskine and Winthrop respectively. These are all well equip ped for tficir work and no doubt will be favorably hoard from. The three young hoys from Watts' mill who were here for treatment by Mr. W. E. Crisp's madstone have re turned homo. The stone having done its work no fears are entertained of further danger from the mad dog bite. Mr. and .Mrs. H. Y. Fuller of Honea Rath are spending sometime with rel atives here. Mr. Fuller is still very much devoted to the Confederate cause and delights to talk of his many ex periences in that war. Mr. W. W. Culbertson and family of Ekom were here Saturday and Sunday visiting their kinfolk. Ground has been broken for the new bank building.
