The thirty two page Trade and In dustrial edition of the Walterboro Press and Standard is an achievement ?which the editor of the paper and the 'people of Colleton county might well feel proud of. Disregarding entirely the quostlon ?whether tho Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson Railroad corporation has, ever had or ever will have any intention of entering Laurens. it seems to us that the City Council had absolntely no grounds for turning down tho petition of the free holders as It did last Wednesday when they asked that an election be ordered to decide whether $17,500 In bonds should be voted to aid In procuring that road. In disregarding the petition of a ma jority of the free holders of the city, the Council virtually declared that free holders were not competent to be entniBted with tho disposition of their own property. This action would leave anyone to believe that Council considered that the citizens of the town did not have enough business ability to manage their own affairs or decide for themselves what they ?want: .Council really says "Citizens of Laurens, you do not know what yon are asking for; this railroad is trying to, mako a catspaw of you and vie are the only ones that see the joke. Why, you have no business ?with this ejoctlon and we will not give it to you." But, has Council any right to refuse this election? Mrs. H. N. Snyder, of Spartanburg. After a number of games were played a delightful Ice course was served. A number of ladles were present at this little affair and It was thoroughly en Joyed. 000 Mrs. H. N. Snydor was again the honoree at a luncheon given Monday at noon by Mrs. W. L. Gray at hor beautiful homo on West Main street. This was a very delightful occasion, a very congenial party of ladles gath ering to greet Mrs. Snyder. ooo Mrs. W. C. Irby, Jr., entertained very delightfully yesterday afternoon In honor of Mrs. Homer Ulackwell, one oi the recent brides. A large number of the younger married set were pres ent and a most enjoyable afternoon Was spent. ooo Last Wednesday evening, from throe to six, Plumcr and Connie May Crad dock, cntortalned their friends, thir ty-five ?In number at a birthday party at their homo a few miles from I.au reus. It was quite a pretty picture, the two parties at the same time, and carried out so nicely. PlUmer entertained her guests out under the shade of the beautiful wa ter oaks, until a hasty shower drove them Into the house, where they gath ered around the organ and passed their time with sweet music. Connie May with her little guests llittcd here, there and everywhere, like little butterflies in all the colors of the rainbow, 'till they were Invited to the dining room where the table was prettily decorated with rose buds and ferns. They were bountifully served with lco cream and cake. They were then ushered back to the porch or yard, wherever their little hearts prompted. Plumer and her guests were then Invited to the dining room, and daintily served In the same way. At six they all left, after having ex pressed themselves as having a pleas ant tlrao, wishing many returns of the day to Plumer and Connie May. Consolidate these at a central point, have hacks to convey the children to and from. Lot a High School be established, an agricultural course, for the boys und a course In domestic science! for the girls and let it also Include music in Its course of study. Verily It Is a much needed work. Get together and let us have a school that will be worth while! The series of meetings at Prospect closed Friday night.
