LETTER CARRIERS TO MEET I IN FLORENCE "Will Gatlier Together July 3-4-? In Pec Dee City. The annual convention of the rural Letter Carriers' association of this State, which Is to he held in Flor ence on July 3, 4 and 5. promises to be most successful from every stand point. There will be a number of distinguished guests and speakers present, and a most Interesting nnd helpful programme has been arranged with supplementary entertainments ami social features or a most delight ful and attractive nature. Thomas E. Wicker of Newberry, president of the association, has ad it re-sod the following open letter to the rural carriers of the State: "Advices from every section of the State Indicate that the convention at Florence, July 15, 1 and 6, will be the bit;! est and best convention the asso ciation has ever held. The business JOen and the local carriers at Flor en, e are making elaborate prepara tions for the entertainment of the delegates, and all visiting carriers. A Special feature of the entertainment wilj be a picnic, coupled with the fa mous pine hark fish stew of the Pee Dot section. Other features of Inter est will be a grand parade of the tno orcycle mall riders of the State, und a rousing, hair-raising game of baseball between the lt. F." D.'s of the Upper counties and the lt. F. D.'s of the lower counties. Don't miss the baseball if you want to Islugh and grow fat. ' The above has to do with the social sir - of the convention; the business Bide of the convention will be of con siderable interest, because of th? presence of a number of distinguished men, who will take part In the dls cusslon of questions that will come before the convention. "Among those who are expected to be present are: United States Senator E. D. Smith, Gov. Cole L. Blease, Lieut. Gov. Chas. A. Smith. P. H. Hyatt, president of the State Good Roads association: a representative from the postoffice department, and an effort is being made to secure Dr. Platt of the University of North Car ollna, who is a distinguished good roads advocate and an orator of na tional reputation. 1 have invited P. V. De Graw, the fourth assistant post master general, but I have not yet been advised whether lie will come. I have also sent a special Invitation to each of the seven congressmen of the State, and It is highly probable that several of these will be present. "i wish, in closing, to Impress the carriers of the State with the im portance of this meeting. All car riers are urged to come. whethci members of the association or not; don't forget that. The Hoard of Trustees of the Lau rens Cemetery met June sixth; present Col. J. W. Ferguson, Mrs. Su<> Mix Adams, Mrs. Eliza W. Mall and Mr. X. M. Dial. liv, Samuel McOowan was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Col. Thomas 13. Crews. Another meeting of the Hoard was held on the twentieth instant; present Col. Ferguson, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Mall and Mr. McGowan. Col. Ferguson was elected perma nent chairman of the Hoard in place of the late J. 0. C. Fleming, and Mr. R. Fleming Jones was elected to the Trusteeship made vacant by the death of Mr. Fleming. The ofllt'O of Secretary and Treas urer of the Mo.ud of Trustees was established and Miss Mary Ferguson wits elected Secretary and Treasurer. Wins Fight for Life.
