T. T. SIMPSON SLAIN BY TRAVIS R. PITTS Tragedy Ocnrrcd Friday at Bobbins, Bfthiwell Fount) father-in-law Shot in Self Defense! T. T. Simpson, familiarly known as "Bum", was shot and killed by Iiis father-in-law, Travis it. Pitta Friday afternoon at the home of the former at Robbtns, Darnwell county. The body of the deceased was brought to Laurens Saturday and taken out to Rocky BpringS church for interment. The particulars regarding the cause that led to the trouble between tin men and the tragedy Itself have been rather hard to obtain, there being many conflicting versions of the whole affair as received here. It appears, however, that Pitts, whose home is In Laurens, bad been summoned by his daughter, Mrs. Simpson, to come "at; nnco," she having sent innre? than one telegram to this effect. Upon reach 1111'. the Simpson home sonic ten days ago, going in response to the messages, Pitts is said to have found Iiis daught er critically ill and without medical att ntion. The father at once pro cured a physician and employed a cook This seems to have offended II' not enraged Simpson and one or more quarrels ensued. Finally, it Is said, Simpson told some of his friends that he was going to put an end to the "old man"' if lie did not net away from there by a certain time as he had re peatedly ordered him to leave and stop interfering with his affairs. Pitts heard of the threat anil when they met at the commissary of the lumber company lor which Simpson worked, Pitts, it is stated. Informed his son-in-law that he had heard of the threat but he was not going to leave until his daughter's condition Improved, and furthermore he was prepared to take care of himself. In stantly pistols were drawn, Simpson, it is aliened, shot first hut missed, whereupon Pitts fired iwtce, mortally wounding his antagonist. On Saturday Pitts sent a letter to a Laurens friend) saying that he had killed "Bum" in self defense and that ho expected to deliver himself up to the sheriff of Dnmwoli during the day. Yesterday it was stated the del" ndant had secured bail and that bond would be arranged. Owing to the continued illness of Mrs. Simpson. Pitts may not return to Laurens at once.
