Broadus, now of Texas, other minis ters were (he Rev. N. H. Williams, the Rer. .Martin, the Rev. .1. I). Mahon. the Rev. I, n. Parrotl, who was pastor when he died about three years ago -ind whose memory, still fresh, is ven erated by all denominations and clos es in Clinton. He was succeeded by rthe Rev. C. Lewis Fowler, who is now pastor. This chun h has been marked by its inner harmony and zeal for the ad vancement of its Christian work. The rnemhers are loyal to each other and ' to their pastor to a remarkable de gree, it includes in its membership many of the prominent and influential citizens of Clinton. There are a number of active organ, fzations; a llaptlsl young peoples union, Partien ami Philnthon classes, the Sunbeams, which is the children's KOCloty, a ladies' aid society and a, .vnman'x missionary society. Rev. ('. I.en is Fowler, Pastor. The Rev. Mr Fowler intend upon ?he pastorate of the church September 1. 1907, and Immediately gained the af fection and support of bis people. His preparation for collego was received at SVeddington seminary In North Carolina, lie was licensed to the ministry in the Methodist church and attended Fallston college one year, preaching at the same time. The follow ing fall he was married to Miss Nannie Hunter, daughter of F. I). Hunter of Simpsonville. The following three years he spent in Newton seminary. Massachusetts, preaching all of that time to the First llaptlsl church of Georgetown, Mass.. as supply. l-.e spent four mouths abroad, three he spent four inontths abroad, three weeks of that time attending lectures at Oxford. Returning home he entered upon his Mrs pastorate at Clinton. He hits man ifested much zeal and enthusiasm for the up-building of this church and has refused llattering calls elsewhere, say ing that he feels that there Is a great work for him in Clinton. He is frequently colled on to deliver addresses on special occasions: he went to Massachusetts on such a mis sion last year. The "Confederate Mothers Circle" in Lnurens county now comprising on ly half a dozen members, according to The Advertiser's Information, hits anain been invaded by the Reaper and Mrs. Anne Benjamin has joined the great band on the other shore. This most excellent woman, who had reached the age of s7. passed away at her home, near Lecsvllle church. Wednesday. February It'.. On Thurs day the funeral and burial services were held at Hurricane Raptisl church four tulles below Clinton, (he Rev. J. F. McOIll of Clinton and Rev. \V. I). Ilammett of Lnurens, officiating. Mrs. Benjamin was the widow of John n. Benjamin, a gallant Confed erate soldier, and the mother of John Henry Benjamin, member of Com pany F. 22nd s. c. regiment, who was killed in the blow up at Petersburg, July 30, 1884. One son. Mr. L. Mr. Honey came into this community a perfect stranger. His editorial work has been brilliant and able and. best of all. it has toned to progress and for the good of Laurens. The standard of your paper has al ways been high and 1 know it will continue to be, but 1 feel that I voice the sentiment of our entire people when I say that we are loath to give up Mr. Honey. I presume that the position accepted by Mr. Honey on The News & Courier, is regarded by newspaper men as a promotion and 1 suppose it would be in order to congratulate him; hut I am not at all sure that any position is higher or more to be envied than that of Hie eonsi icntiotis, hard-working, self-sacrificing, able country editor, lie wields a tremendous power for good and there is no estimating his Influ ence. Compnrltlvely few of our people have access to the daily paper hut by the thousands, around the lire-side, in the bumble home, the county weekly is read, every word in it and its in llucnco upon old and young is beyond computation. By the way what would the daily papers do without the editor of The Advertiser to draw rrom? Gnrlington, Pall, Boney?a splendid trio that.
