REV. C. A. B. JENNINGS. Short Biographical Sketch Printed in Union Progress. Rev. Clarke Alexander Buckner Jen nings was born in Laurens county Feb ruary 16, 18(58. When a young man his father and mother died. He received his early education at the schools of Clinton, later graduating at the Pres byterian College of South Carolina in that town. Having decided to enter the ministry, he took a theological course at the Theological Seminary at Columbia, later taking several years at Princeton Theological Seminary. It was immediately after his graduation on June 18, 1892, that he preached his trial sermon in Ulis city with a view to becoming pastor of the First Presbyte rian, church. He was called and in stalled as pastor on October 8, 181)2. In December of the same year he was married to Miss Elizabeth Landrum, daughter of the late Dr. J. B. O. Lan drum, and of this union three daughters were born, the eldest of which is Miriam, now about fifteen years old, [Catherine and Dorothy being younger. For ten years Mr. Jennings continued his pastoral relations with the First Presbyterian church here; in January, 11)02, resigning to take charge of a group of Presbyterian churches which include Reidville and several other [joints, being succeeded here by Rev. A. G. Wardlaw. In May, 1903, Mrs. Jennings, who had practically been an invalid for four or live years, passed away, since which time Mr. Jennings, with the aid of Mrs. Landrum, has bad the sole oversight and care of his young daughters. Fol lowing closelv upon this sorrow came another in the death of his youngest brother. Dr. J. Mac. Jennings, who had just completed a medical course. Dr. Jennings passed away in November, 1905. Still another sorrow was to be fall him when his only remaining brother, who had been bis boon companion, Rev. P. Comwell Jennings, who was pastor of the Wakelield Memorial church at Germantown, Pa., and an unusually gifted and promising young minister, died in February of last year, all of them being buried at Clinton, where their boyhood days had passed so pleas ant ly. In order that the electors may prop erly understand the act passed by the the last, legislature in regard to the re enrollment of voters we publish it be low: "Sec. 1. Bo it enacted by the gen eral assembly of the State of South Carolina, that the supervisors of regis tration in each county of the State are required to re-enroll all the qualified (doctors in this State during the year 1DIIS. "Sec. 2. That at the same time the said supervisors shall register all per sons who may make application there for and who may be entitled thereto. "Sec. :>. That, for the purpose of ?uch enrollment and registration the said su pervisors shall keep the hooks of regis tration open at the several county seats everyday (Sunday excepted) between the hours of !> a. m. and (1 p. in. during the months of July and August, 1908; and in addition they shall attend during the month of September, IHOS, at least one day in each township, in their re spective counties, of which at least ten days notice shall be given by advertise ment in a newspaper published In the county; and In counties containing 60,? 000 inhabitants they shall attend in each city, town or industrial community con taining three hundred or more inhabi tants, at least one day, upon similar notice." C, May 2(5. North Car olina was carried for State prohibition today by a majority that is estimated at from 40,000 to 42,000 on reports and estimates received up to midnight. The prohibition ticket has carried 78 out of the 98 counties by majorities approximating 48,000, The anti-prohi bition ticket has 20 counties by majori ties approximating 1,600. This calcu lation is based on some estimates and the prohibition leaders say it is possible for the prohibition majority to reach 50,(100. A close estimate of the vote would glvo a prohibition majority of about $4.r?,(i(i<i. The election passed off very quietly, no disturbances of any moment being reported. Tho total vole cast in the State was about I7f>,<. LOCAL AND PERSONAL MENTION. Miss Kstollo Aull, of Newberry, ar rived in the city Monday and is the guest of Mrs. Fleming .loin s. Miss Claudia Darlington, the pretty little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. I). Darlington, returned Friday from a' visit to relatives in Sumter. Miss Gussie Harper, who is teaching in the Westminster Graded School, is .spending the summer with her mother, Mrs. Nancy Harper, on South Harper street. Miss Lillic A. Peter on, daughter of Mr.J.W.Peterson, has graduated in the literary department of the Orangeburg Collegiate Institute, having received her diploma last week. Miss Rosalee Franks left Friday for Greenville, where she will attend the commencement exercises of I he colleges this week. Messrs. A. C. Todd, W. R. Richey, Sr., and T. C. Turner, Jr., of the local bar, appeared in their several cases he fore the Supreme Court in Columbia last week. Miss Mazie Little left Saturday for Columbia, where s! Officers for Another Year- Next Meeting in Charleston. The annual convention Knights of Pythias was held in the city of Aiken last week, adjourning Thursday to meet next year in Charleston. Nardin, Sr., one of Anderson's oldest and best beloved cit izens, died at his homo at the corner of south Fant and east Whitncr streets at 3 o'clock last Saturday morning.
