Mr. J. Wells Todd has resigned his position as cashier of the Peoples Loan and Exchange Bank of this city. This resignation was submitted to the board of directors in their meeting last Wednesday morning and accepted. For some time past Mr. Todd has been in failing health and in consequence thereof deemed it for the best interests of the bank to resign and elect a cash ier who would be physically able to give more time and attention to the duties of the office. In his stead Mr. C. W. Tune was elected. Mr. Tune has held the position of assistant cashier for ten years; in fact, throughout the entire administration of Mr. Todd as cashier. He moved here in 1871 from Alabama and has always been closely identified with the interests of Laurens. His long training amply fits him for the du ties he now assumes. The withdrawal of Mr. Todd from active business is a matter of sincere regret to all the people of this city and especially the business men. He has been connected with the bank since its organization over twenty years ago in some capacity and for ten years and more has held the position of cashier. Mr. Todd is, of course, still a stock holder and director in the institution. With the burdens of this ollicc removed Mr. Todd's health, it is hoped by all the people of Laurens, will steadily and speedily improve. A Healing Salve for Burns, Chapped Hands and Sore Nipples. Henderson Withdraws From Race. The Hon. D. S. Henderson, of Aiken, has withdrawn from the senatorial con test. Following is his statement pub lished last week: "Some time ago I announced that I would be a candidate for the long term for United States senator, but there are now reasons, in which the public would not be interested, which induce me not to enter the race, and I feel it my duty to my friends to so state at this juncture in order that they may align themselves where and with whom they see fit. "I am very grateful for the support which my faithful friends have tendered me. "If any issue personal to myself was made or if there was any public issue in which the welfare of the State and public at large were involved that pvould arise in the ensuing canvass I would continue the race to the end; but as none such exist there is no duty which requires such action on my part. There will be no dearth of candidates from present appearances, and for the good of the State I hope the people will make a wise choice." So says a dis patch from Columbia: The second and third regiments will go into camp at Sullivan's Island the latter part of June, instead of the third and first, according to an announcement made by General Boyd upon his return from the up-country inspections today. It was found impractical for the first to go to Charleston on account of the large number of farmers and because Colonel Lewis has duties in court at that time. The first will go into camp later some where in the State or at Ghickamauga. General Boyd reports the up-coumiy companies in the host condition in their history. President's Daughter.. at Throttle of Locomotive on Atlanta & West Point Road. Atlanta, Ga., April 4.?Miss Ethel Roosevelt, daughter of the president stood at the throttle of the Atlanta and West Point train when it steamed into Atlanta at noon today. She had been its engineer all the way from Newnan and had brought it into the terminal depot here just six minutes ahead of schedule. "I'm so sorry it's over with," she said to Eugineer John T. Still, when the train slowed down and came to a standstill under the shed. "This has been the jolliest hour of my whole life. I guess I'm the only presidents daugh ter who ever ran an engine." It was just before the train pulled out from Newnan that Engineer Still heard a girl's voice behind him calling: "May'n I come across and watch you, Mr. Engineer?', Turning, Mr. Still saw the daughter of the president of the United States on the tender. Some man waited near her and explained to the engineer that Miss Ethel had been teasing her mother for a ride on the engine. She had slipped away from the parlor car it seems, before Mrs. Roosevelt could realize what was happening and there she stood. Engineer Still stretched forth his big hand and lifted her to the scat near him. "I suppose you'd like to run the mo gul?" he asked. "Oh, if you would be good enough to let me," answered Miss Ethel. A min ute later her palm had closed over the throttle. "Now pull open the lever," said the engineer. Miss Ethel pulled with all her might and off rolled the train while she laughed delightedly at what she bad done. The new shades of Tans in Oxfords and Ties for Kastor Sunday are at Copeland's.
