The comet discovered by Prof. Daniel of Princeton University in June, has been getting nearer to the sun and earth, and is now visible to the naked eye. It has a very bright steller nu cleous, much comma and a short tail. It is now about the third magnitude, and can be located by the persons who desire to sec it by following these di rections: At 3 a. m. to 3:30 a. m., looking due cast at 45 degrees or more above the horison, will be seen the Pleiades a well known star cluster in Taurus, the Bull, and in a line straight underneath as one looks is the bright Htar, Aldebaran and the Hyades, anoth er cluster. The comet is entering right among the Hyades, and on August 1st peeped almost over the star Aldebaran, a little SOUth. It can be very well seen with an opera glass. As the dawn begins at 4 o'clock, observation must be made between 1 and 2 o'clock. The comet will be nearest the sun or September 3, at a distance of 46,000,000 nute:), and from the earth 110,000,000 mile :- It is now 85,000,000 miles from the sun and 70,000,000 miles from the earth. It must grow much brighter, but it is getting clos?r to the sun's rays - rising only a short time before the dawn appears ?that we may not be ablo Xo see it at its best.? Baltimore News. Rising From the Grave. A prominent manufacturur, Win. A. Fertwell, of Lucama, N. C, relates a most remarkable experience. He says: "After taking less than three botties of Electric Bitters, I feel like one ris ing from the grave. My trouble is Bl ight's disease, in the Diabetes stage, I fully believe Electric Bitters ivill cure me permanently, for it has already stopped the liver and bladder complica tions which have troubled me for years." Squires, who re turned recently from Europe, told of the building and maintenance of roads there. Contrary to general belief, he said, affairs have not yet reached the stage of perfection abroad, although they are far in advance of the United States. Fast autos, he said, are bad for jj. good roads, and slow autos are good Wor bad roads. ?Ex. Report? from Boyd's mill section are alive with the progress made on tho Reedy River Power Co., dam. The contractor who evidently knows his business spared no time nor expense in getting ready for the job and when he was ready, rock and stone began to move. President Dial states that the power will be ready for use before 1st of Jan uary and he is anxious for all those who contemplate its use to confer with him so that he may be able to make estimates and put them in possession of such other information as may be of value. Of course all the power will be con sumed in the city one way or another but Mr. Dial is anxious for the small enterprises to take hold of it first as they are the ones that it will pay best to both parties. And besides these are one of the greatest needs to the city. Let everybody act quick. Slay With the Farm. Much is being said and written urging the rising generation to stay on the farm instead of flocking to the great cities. Tho farm is the very best place for young people. The same thing can be said in regard to old folks. It is also the best place for them. One of the saddest sights we see is when old folks and middle aged people, who have lived all their lives on the farm, raised large families and surrounded themselves with the luxuries and comforts which only the country can furnish and the city cannot supply?just when they have everything fixed so they can lay back and enjoy life -sell the old farm and with it all that memory cherishes and move to town, thinking that they will be better satisfied and that they ha*vc at last at tained the ease and freedom from care which is their due after a life's strug gle with adversity. This would be all right if it brought about the desired re sult, but it does not. It all seems very nice and restful for a while, but in nearly every ease after a year or so of town life with its rush and rattle, with the high prices which they must pay for the same necessities that they had al ways heretofore produced themselves, without horses, cows or chickens, for these things cannot be kept in town ex cept at great expense, they begin to long for the old farm with its milk, but ter and eggs?plenty for all and some to sell. It is hard feu* a man and a woman whose lives have always been full of action to suddenly cease from manual labor and pass their remaining days in leisure. The old folks seldom enjoy the sports and pastimes with which the youth of the city beguile the passing hour and time hangs heavy on their hands. Stay with the farm, whether you be old or young, and you will never be as sailed by the ills and bills which nearly make life a burden to the city dwell er.?Pacific Homestead. Laughable Forg etf illness. As Sheridan Knowles, the dramatist, was walking down the Strand one day with a friend he stopped to greet a gentleman, wdio, however, received him very coldly. "Do you know," said ho to Knowles, "that you owe me an apology?" "An apology! What for?" asked the dramatist. "For not keeping that dinner engage ment you had with me last Thursday. I had a number of people to meet you, and you never came or even sent sin explanation of your absence." "Oh!, I'm so sorry!" exclaimed Knowles. "I've such a memory that 1 forgot all about the affair; forgive me and invite me to another dinner." It was then arranged that he should dine with the gentleman on the follow ing Wednesday, and in order to secure against the engagement being again forgotten he there and then recorded it in his diary. On rejoining his friend he told him the story of his lapse of memory. "Who is the gentleman?" asked the friend. "Well, I'm blessed!" cried Sheridan Knowles. "I have forgotten bis name." "That's funny," said the friend, "but you can easily find it out by re ferring to the directory. You know his address, of course." "No, not even that!" roared the un happy dramatist. American Press.
