S. M. & E, H. Wilkes & Co. STATE BANKERS' ASSOCIATION. Three Days of Qrace on Bank Notes May be Cut Out. Greenville, May 12. ? Having com. pleted the transaction of all business before the convention, the annual meeting of the South Carolina Bank era' association came to an end early yesterday afternoon, but a few stir linger in Greenville. By to-morrow eve ning all the visitors will have left the city. The annual election of officers was the last important act of the conven tion before adjournment. All nomina tions were made by committee and the following were chosen by a unanimous ballot on motion of J. H. Thayer: W. J. Roddey, of Rock Hill, presi dent. W. D. Morgan, of Georgetown, vice | president. Giles L. Wilson, secretary and treas urer. Members of the executive committee: D. D. McColl, Bennettsville; J. C. Self, Greenwood; L. C. Harrison, Yorkville. Delegates to the American Bankers' Association?E. P. Grice, Charleston; L. W. Parker, Greenville; W. J. Mont gomery, Marion. Attorney for the association?A. Markley Lee, of Charleston. A number of resolutions, some of j which were of grave importance to the [ financial welfare of the State, were in troduced by the committee on resolu- ] tions yesterday, and duly acted upon by the! convention. Wilson G. Harvey, chairman, read the resolutions for the | committee. Perhaps the most important resolu tion received and adopted was that looking toward the appointment of a commission by the Legislature to ex amine and audit the books and accounts of all corporations doing business in South Carolina; the idea being to ascer tain the true condition, reliability and for the protection of the public. The executive committee will probably make an effort to have such a law framed at the next General Assembly. There was some discussion on the resolution, but no opposition to it. President Montgom ery and others pointing out that there had been more than one financial crash within recent years in the State by which many innocent stockholders and the public generally suffered. Such things, he said, could in a measure be prevented by the constant supervision of an auditing commission. It is probable that the time honored rule giving 3 days of grace on bank pa per and notes will be abolished in the course of time. According to a resolu tion adopted yesterday the bankers' as sociation will make an effort to have the Legislature pass such an act at the next session. "Butting" Into the Navy. "Butting" into business is compar atively easy, "butting" into society is common, but "butting" into the navy is both rare and painful. Paul J. An derson, who recently was examined at the recruiting oflice, Minneapolis, was found an eighth of an inch too short for acceptance. He went outside, knocked his head against a substantial building, and came back with an eighth of an inch to spare over the required height. It would have been a shame not to ac cept a man of this sort.?The Bluejack et. To Trustees of First Methodist Church. ' Gentlemen: ? It's sound sense that we tell you. 1 It will cost less dollars to paint your church with L. & M. Paint, because more painting is done with one gallon of L. & M. than with two gallons of I other paints, and the L. & M. Zinc hardens the L. & M. White Lead and makes the L. & M. Paint wear like iron. Any church will be given a liberal quantity free whenever they paint. 4 gallons L. & M. mixed with 3 gal lons Linseed Oil will paint a moderate sized house. L. & M. costs only $1.20 per gallon. J. E. Webb, Fainter, Hickory, N. C, writes: "Houses painted with L. & M. 15 years ago have not needed painting since. a Sold by W. L. Boyd, Laurens, S. O! who would be a landsman And never feel the tide Of fiery exultation And patriotic pride Go bounding through his pulses, And sweeping o'er his soul, When o'or the dark-blue waters The guns begin to roll? The acrid smell of powder Is heavy on the air, The black and shining muzzles With jets of crimson flare, To every foe of freedom They sound the crack of doom When o'er the tossing ocean The guns begins to boom. The hurtling shells go singing Above the surging brine A song of naval glory That fires the blooa like wine. O, who would be a landsman And walk upon the shore, When o'er the foaming billows The guns begin to roar! ?Minna Irving, in the Bluejacket. We will venture to say nine cases out of ten are caused by improper digestion. This, or other symptoms of Indigestion such as nervousness, nausea, heart-burn, sour stomach, flatulency and despondency, I should be a warning to you who are in danger of having indigestion, the great est enemy of American health to-day, fasten its merciless fangs on your health. Remember, "A Stitch in time saves nine", and a bottle of the celebrated Kellum's Sure Cure for Indigestion has saved untold misery to people in many parts of this broad land, by curing them permanently of this miserable disease. | Yes, not like the pepsin digestives that help for a time; but cures permanently by causing the digestive organs to perform their functions. Nature being such a great rectifier of its own ills, with the assistance of this powerful medicine, gives you a healthy stomach and removes indigestion and its symptoms perma nently Sold on a $5.00 guarantee. 50 cents and $1.00 per bottle at I .aureus Drug Company.
