Wilson, President of the Bank of Cross Anchor, was in the eity Wednesday. Mr. Robt. E. Hill of R. P. 1). No. 3 gave us a pleasant call Thursday after noon. Mr. Gideon Owens of Barksdalc was in town Friday and gave THE ADVER TISER an appreciated call. Miss Lucy Sloan lias gone to Fort Motte, Orangeburg county, to teach during tho current term. Mr. Eugene Simpson, a progressive young farmer of Poplar Springs was in tho city on Wednesday. Mr. J. S. Machen and Solicitor r. A. Cooper now occupy their new resi dences on South Harper Street. Mr. R. W. Nichols has moved into Mr. J. S. Machen's house on Sullivan Street. Mr. W. R. McCuen is "at home" on Chestnut Street, having moved into the Dr. Connor house, which he recently purchased. Mrs. R. C. Watts and Misses Courto ney and Augusta Watts returned to Cheraw Thursday, after a visit of sev eral weeks in the city. MR. MESSER FULLER DEAD. Another Member of James Battalion Passes Over the River. Mr. Messer Fuller, an aged and re spected citizen of the county, died at his home seven miles west of the city last Wednesday and was buried on the following day at Mt. Pleasant Church, Waterloo township. Mr. Fuller was about 80 years and is survived by his aged widow. By his death another gallant member of James Battalion has been called hither to answer the roll call up yonder. Last Mope Vanished. When leading physicians said that W. M. Thomas in Washington. Washington, I). ('., Oct. Upon Bishop Satterlee's return to Washing ton in a few days, Rev. Henry Thomas, until a short time ago rector of the Episcopal Church at Laurens, S. C, will be installed as rector of Saint Michael's and All Angels lu re. Rev. Mr. Thomas arrived in Wash ington from Laurens about two weeks ago and Sunday preached his first ser mon in his new Church. Saint Mich ael's and All Angels is a fashionable Church at Twenty-second and Fstreets, N. W., and numbers in its congregation some of the most influential citizens of Washington. So Charleston has more than half the deposits of the State. Wc don't know any way to get that fourteen million dollars away from Charleston except by offering such attractive investments in the up-country that the owners of the money will not permit it to lie idle.
