The "B?itlnskies" Meet. The order of "Buttinskies" held one of its popular conclaves at the home of Mr. Coko Gray last Fri day evening. The meeting was an especially delightful one and passed all too rapidly. Delicious refreshments were served the guests who were: Miss Beth Shell, Charles Simpson; Miss Lenora Martin, Charles Kern; Miss Mary Todd, Calhoun McGowan; Miss Daisy Sullivan, Coko Gray; Miss Zelene Gray, Clyde Franks; Messrs. Douglas Gray, Claronce Brandet t, Ern est Easterby, J. W. Todd, Moore Sulli van. Chestnut Ridge School. Miss Bessie Hudgens'school at Chest nut Ridge will close with a big picnic on May 6th. Mr. C. C. Fcathcrstone will make an address and everybody is invited. The well houses on the Public Square have been painted and the "drum" put down in the well. You can now get a cool frem drink of the city's pure water, but you will have to take it out of a tin dipper and not the "Old Oaken Bucket." New Stenographer. Mr. John K. Aull of Newberry has been appointed stenographer of the new (8th) Judicial Circuit. Another Course in Order. The Old Homestead Quartette on last Thursday night was the last attraction of the Laurens Lyceum course. The whole course was admirably se lected and it is difficult to sny which was the most enjoyed. But no matter how much the former attractions were appreciated, the audience showed on last Thursday night that they found nothing lacking in this last feature. The committee of the Lyceum Asso ciation and particularly Mr. A. C. Todd deserve the thanks of the members for their effort in giving to our people such a splendid opportunity for entertain ment. Ora Locals. Ora, April 29th ?Misses Lizzie and Belle Craig shopped in Laurens last week. Little Misses Alice and Sadie Garrett are the guests of their grand-father, Mr. S. A. McCarley. The friends of Mrs. Margaret Blakely will be glad to know that she is recov ering from an attack of grippe. Mr. Robert Fleming and his sister, Miss Lulu, spent a few days in Char leston recently. Mrs. Jane and Miss Belle Craig vis ited Mr. Niles Craig in Greenwood last week. The "Friday Afternoon Club" gave an Egg Hunt to the children of the neighborhood. It was in Mrs. John McClintock's grove and seems to have been a very enjoyable occasion. Dr. William Pressly of Due West came to Ora yesterday. He is assisting Mr. drier in carrying on a communion meeting in the A. R. P. Church. The last service will be held Sunday eve ning. Miss Lidie Blakely is at home from Spartanburg for a few weeks. Miss Pamelia Pouche and Mrs. John Auld are recovering from protracted illnesses. Misses Lizzie McClintock and Flor ence Moffett were the guests of Miss Alice McCarley last Saturday. The closing exercises of the Ora Academy will be held next Friday evening at the school house. There will also be an address. Confederate Reunion to be at Louisville. Greenville, S. C, April 20, '05. To Camp Garlington, No. 501, U. C. V., Laurens, S. C. Dear Comrades: Once again we are called to meet in annual reunion. This year our reunion will bo in Louisville, Ky., on June 14-16-16. The prospects are bright for one of the largest and most inspiring reunions ever held. Let me urge your Camp to send a full dele gation. Let us make this the banner year for South Carolina Camps. When our faithful Adjutant General in Chief calls the roll let him be able to say, "South Carolina Camps have paid in full." The dues are very small. Five cents per capita for State dues should be sent at once to J. M. Jordon, Chief of Staff, Greenville, S. C, and 10 cents per capita for General Headquarters should be sent to Gen. Wm. E. V: Attention, Camp Garlington. Members of Camp Garlington, U. C. V., are hereby notified to meet on Sat urday, May 6th, at 10 o'clock a. m. A prompt attendance is earnestly solicited as important business is to be trans acted. Delegates to the general Reunion, to be held this year at Louisville, Ky., em bracing June 14, 15 and 16, are to be elected, and other business attended to. Also, Delegates to the State Reunion are to bo elected. The date and place for the latter Reunion have not yet been fixed, but will be later. Members should come prepared to pay their annual dues, 25 cents, in order to be in good standing and entitled to re ceive Crosses of Honor, to be conferred on Memorial Day, May 10th proximo. t. b. The school at New Harmony, taught by Miss Carrie Lou Dorroh will close this week. On Saturday, 6th, there will be a basket picnic to which ull are invited. Some prominent speakers arc expected and a good time is assured. Capt. B. A. Wharton and Mr. Whlteford's Terrapin. Chief of Police Capt. B. A. Wharton, of Cross Hill, relates the following from his old neighbor, David Whiteford says a correspondent in the Laurensville Her ald: Mr. Whiteford when a boy found a ter rapin near the spring and after carving his initials on his back threw him in the branch. Having some ditching done a few days ago noar the spring he related to his son the incident. In a few hours a terrapin was dug up and the old gen tleman asked to seo it, and found on its back, the initials plainly to be seen where he had made them sixty-five years ago. He immediately wrote to his two brothers in Mississippi relating the capture of their old friend which they had seen him mark in their boyhood.
