Magistrate Cook of Youngs was in the city on Monday. The Spartanburg District Conference of the M. E. Church, South, will tneet in this city on the evening of May 10th. Mrs. W. E. Lucas and her mother, Mrs. Cox, are on a short pleasure trip to Charleston, S. C. and Jacksonville, Fla. Rev. R. G. McLees elosed tho meet ing at the First Presbyterion Church last Sunday evening. The services were well attended and much enjoyed. Mr. L. A. Bowman of Chicago who is to sing at the concert to be given for the Episcopal Church on next Tueseay evening is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Long. The game of ball between the Lau rens and Clinton "nines" played in Garlington's pasture on Friday after noon resulted in a score of 10 to 5 in favor of Laurens. REV. CONWAY ANDERSON WEDS. He Was Married to Miss Ifert in Cen tral America, April 12th. News of the marriage of Rev. Con way G. Anderson and Miss Daisy Ifert, missionaries located at Zacapa, Gua temala, Central America, has been re ceived by the relatives of Mr. Ander son in this city. The marriage took place last Wednesday, April 12th. in the city of Zacapa. Mr. Anderson went to Central America three years ago to do mission work under the direction of the Pon ticostal Mission Hoard of Nashville, Tenn. Miss Ifert, now Mrs. Anderson, is a Maryland lady and was sent out as a missionary by the Central Mission Board of California. The announcement of Mr. Anderson's marriage, together with the fact that he is meeting with much success in the) mission field is good news for his num erous friends and relatives in I.aureus. When the fire occurred on the premi ses of the Thornwell Orphanage on the 4th of November last, there were hard times for a while for two hundred or phans. They had neither pantry nor storehouse, and had "Old Mother Hub bard gone to the cupboard" she would have found that the cupboard was not bare; it was gone! All the pickles and preserves and dried fruit and other lit tle supplies fixed in the summer for the winter's use, were gone up in smoke. And in addition, all the (lour and meal ami rice and sugar and molasses and bacon and vinegar and tea and coffee had been fuel for the devouring (lames! There was not even a kitchen left, much less a storehouse; but the people (God bless the people, their hearts are always right), well, the people came to the rescue and now we have completed and are ready to open a handsome new building, 100 feet one way by 05 the other. It is covered with tin and it took fifty-five squares to cover it. The (loers of the kitchen and dairy are of the best cement; the walls are of brick laid in cement. It has been furnished with ranges and stoves. The Majestic Range Company of St. Louis have given us a splendid new range and two portable bakers. Hut it woefully lacks something! There is not a dust of meal nor grain of rice, nor a cruise of oil nor a pound of sugar,-there is nothing- in the storehouse. Why, not even a mouse has gone there to hunt his dinner, not a fly is looking out for the pickings! And yet on that store house 260 children with their teachers are dependent for their duili 'oread. It is time for a house-warming! Let us have it. What have you at hand that you can send? Do not wait for a committee to call on you or a preacher to get after you. The third week in April is our reception week. Every body will he at home. If you get your gifts sent in that week it will not be late. Somebody asks, "What are the children going to do till then for some thing to eat? "If you are the one who asks, we will just say that there are fifty-two reception weeks at the Thorn well Orphanage, but the third week in April is reception week in particular. It is to commemorate the lire and to make us feel good that once more we have a kitchen and a dairy and the trimmings that go with them. Do not forget. Send something, everything! Fill up that storehouse for once. It is a right good Sized one and there is no danger of over-crowding. God bless you. dear friends, and may He put it into your hearts to make glad the fatherless. Minnie Heid, wife of Mr. Rhett Reid of this city, died Sunday morning last at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wado H. Pinson, near Mt. Pleasant Church. Mrs. Reid was a most excellent Christian lady and was held in high es teem by all her acquaintances. Besides her husband, several small children are left by the departed wife and mother.
