Ulysses Campbell, a Greenville Negro, Not to ho Hanged. Governor Hoyward has commuted the death sentence of Ulysses Camp boll, colored, who was condemned to death in Greenville for killing a ne gres?, to life imprisonment. Campbell is the son of an old negro named Joo Campbell of tho Hunting ton neighborhood, this county. He bore a good reputation but is said to have been a man of weak mind. In a drunken row he killed the woman, hardly know ing what he was doing. Mr. J. P. Saxon of Huntington in terested himself in the caee, more on account of tho family of the man who aro good negroes, and succeeded in ob taining the services of Hon. Lewis Dorroh of Greenville for him. Then Mr, Saxon went to seo the Governor with Mr. Dorroh and tho granting of tho commutation was the result. It was clearly shown that the case was one in.whlch tho Governor could well afford to show mercy without com promising in the least tho ends of jus tice. The family of the negro are of course very grateful as they should be, to Mr. Saxon and Mr. Dorroh for help. In fact tho man would havo probably been hung but for tho active efforts of Mr. Saxon. Here is local example. J, H. O'Dell, of Factory Hill, mill hand, says: "I havo been suffering from backacho for a long whilo. At times I could not work on account of the aching across the small of ray back and the dull pain gave me no rest day or night. I could not stand straight and if I sat for a bit and attempted to arise I had to catch hold of something to pull myself up. The secretions from the kidneys were very red, full of sedi ment and got like a jelly after they stood for a while. I could not retain them any length of time and bad to rite often at night. I tried several highly recommended remedies and used liniments, but nothing did me any good until 1 got a box of Doan's Kidney Pills at the Palmetto Drug Co. and used them according to dlreotions. They gave me relief almostatonce and since using them the kldnoy secretions have gotten clear and natural and I do not have to got up at nights as I used to, while the backache has all left me."
