Editor ok The Advertiser: The frequent encroachment by tho oars of the Charleston ?fe Western Carolina Railway Company upoa tho highway crossing on East Main street In the oity of Laurens makes It p.oper for the writer to call the attention of the public authorities to this matter. The cars aro often left standing upon the crossings for over five minutes at a time and at night sometimes freight cars aro left projecting over the highways some distance which makes horses shy around in cross ing. A lady said to the writer to day as she orossed the place that the orossing was really dangerous and that a flagman ought to be stationed there for the public safety. On two occasions the writer was in danger of being struck by a crossing oar for want of sufilolent signals at the time. The au thorities ought to urge upon the rail road to place their cars away from the crossing and not blockade the same. The city authorities ought also to see to it that the telephone posts are sot further from the edge of the street near the crossing so as to leave a wider traveling place near the crossing on either side. The bed of the street just below the railroad crossing and West of the river ought to he elevated so as not to make such a steep ascent to cross the track of the railroad. 1 Pedestrian." Letter to W.
