A Talented Woman. The following is taken from tho Co lumbia correspondence of tho Abbe ville Medium: "I walked part of the way to church with Miss Euphemia McCllnlock a teacher In the Presby terlon College for Women. She Is one of the most talented women In the State. She is a daughter of Rev. E. P. McCIintock, of Newberry, who married Mies Lizzie Young of Due West, and, of courso, stands by the church of her fathers." Mies McCIintock has relatives and friends 111 Laurons who will bo glad to soc that she Is appreciated. Death of Col. John U. Williams. Col. John G. Williams, a promlnont and well known citizen of Cross Hill, in Laurens county, died on Monday morning, February 24th, 1902, after a lingering illness. He was a large and prosperous farmer, besides being close ly identified with other interests which tended to build up his county and State. Ho ably and wisely represent enhis county In the Legislature seve ral terms. In early life he married Miss Nannie Campbell, of Laurens, who survivos him. Ho leaves no chil dren. He was a devoted member of the Mothodlst church. In his death the State has lost a truo and good man and his wlfo a noble and devotod husband. Col. Williams was the broth er-in-law of MrB.|T. A. Honry Brown, a colored man living just out of towu sustained a heavy loss last week. On Friday morning he was coming into town with a load of wood when In crossing the river at tho ford on Church street, in tho direction of Dr. J. A. Bnrksdalo's farm, tho wagon was overturned and the mule and horse, which ho was driving were drowned. Brown himself only escap ed by catching and swinging on to the foot brldgo near by. The rlvor was swollen from tho heavy rain of the Krevlous night. This ford has always een treacherous and needs bridging very badly. Burglar Caught. John Sullivan, colored, Is in jail charged with breaking into the houso of Mr. John D. Powers, a leading cit izen of Barksdale'*, Saturday night a v ?c ago. It was tho second attempt made recently to break into the house, the first falling. Tho thief carried off some jewelry. Sullivan has con fessed to belog the thiof and a part of tho jewolry has been recovored. Death or Mrs. J. C. Elliott. Mrs. Rosa Elliott, wife of Mr. J. C. El'lott, died at her homo in this city at noon on yesterday, of pneumonia, after an illness of about ten days. Mrs. Elliott was a sister of Dr. W R. Harris, Mr. Tom Harris, Mrs. Honry Wbarton and Mrs. Ireno Henderson, of Waterloo. She leaves a little daughter about twelve years of ago and a de voted husband, who havo the deepost sympathy In their 6ore bereavement. Barksdale. Death of Rev. David Todd. Rev. David Todd died in this city at the home of his hrother, Dr. T. E. Todd, at about seven o'clock last Wed nesday evening bavlngsuffered a stroke of paralysis on Wednesday morning. Rev. Mr. Todd was a minister of tho Presbyterian Church and had served as pastor a number of churches in this state and Mississippi. In the latter state he married, his wife dying many J'osrs ago. Mr. Todd wes a son of tho ate Samuel R. Todd, and is survived by two brothers, Dr. T. E. Todd and Mr. J. Wells Todd and by one sister Mrs. James Johnson, of Alabama. He was a graduate of tho South Carolina College. Mr. Todd lived a life of con secration and great usefulness to his ohurch and was hold In general and high esteem. He was burled at tho olty cemetery at ten o'clock on Friday morning, funeral services having beon flr6t conducted at the Presbyterian Church by Rov. Mr. Adams. Tho pall bearers were Col. J. W. Clark, a large farmer and good citizen, living at Tylorsvllle, died on Sunday, the 2ud. Lee and John Langston of this city, having married their sis tor. Mr. James D. Campbell, the Court stenographer of the 7th Circuit, died in Columbia on Monday aftornoo:). On his frequent official visits to Laurens he made numbers of friends, who ainoere* ly regret his death. He was a native of Anderson county.
