Mr. B. A. Bolt, a eon of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Bolt of Mt. Gallagher, died at the infirmary of the South Carolina Collego at 6 A. M. on last Tuesday morning. Mr. Bolt was elck throe weeks and at Intervals both his parents were with him, his mother continuing at his bedside until the ond. His body was brought to Laurens on Tuesday accompanied by Messrs. J. J. McSwaln and W. II. Cobb, his Collego room mates. Tho burial took place near tho homo of his parents on the following day. Yesterday morning just as tho sun was rising above tho horl/.on, tho sun of tho life of Mr. B. A. Bolt, a student of tho South Carolina College, a mem ber of the freshman class and right guard In tho gamo of football between a roll n a and Clomson, went down never to rlso again. Ho died in tho College Infirmary In the presence of his aged mother and matron. He had a severe caso of typhoid fovcr, which his father thinks was contracted at his homo In Laurens county. Ho was attended by Drs. Taylor and Talley. Mr. Bolt was about 25 years of age and was very popular with all who know him. Ho was a devoted Christian and adhorod to the Methodist persuasion, being a mombor of that church for several years. ' Ho showed great Christian resignation all through his illness and when his ond camo no seemed to fall into poaccful slumber. He will bo missed by his class mates and by all who know and loved him. Mr. Bolt's /ather and mother camo here about a wook ago, but his father went back home and his mother was the only one of his rclativos who was with him. Ho was well cared for by tho matron and students, some of whom set up with him every night. And now that we are in the midst of ice and snow that oover the earth as a shroud, we look back with much pleasure to a month among the hills and vales and undor the hospitable roof-trees of the dwollers of old his toric Laurens. The month was very happily spent, October, per haps the most beautiful month of the year, was certainly at her best. There were comparatively few cloudy days, and only occasional showers, which preserved the bril liance of the leaves and the fra grance of the flowers. "The bluest of blue skies and a dolicious at mosphere by day, were followed at the evening tide by draperies and pavilions, of orimson and vormil lion, for the departing sun who, haviug finished his wonderful work in the harvest fields had with drawn from them his onripeuiug and enriching rays. Asa people I think wo lack sen timent. True sentiment makes us strong when tho days of adver sity come to us. Dear, lamented Timrod, how happily ho expresses a thought in the closing linos of one of his charming sonnets: "Oh, me, why may not lovo and life ho one? A morning's walk through the woodland halls, upon their carpets of rosetint and saffron, yellow, purple and russet, fringed with the beautiful boo aster and the stately goldon rod, was certainly inspiriting, and no less lovely and enjoyable were the evenings, as wo went through the saths of the forests aglow with richest tints and shades of coloring, inhaling tho fragrant, free sweet air, and watching the high lights and glinting from tho eminences and the shadows creeping upon the lower situations. Speaking of the beautiful in sunset scenes. Ruskin has truly and happily said that the Creator could havo given us simply "tho blue sky for the fair weatjior and tho dull leaden sky for foul weather," but, instead, for our enjoyment, wo rarely have two evening skies alike. It is either a river of gold in tho West, an ocean of amber in the North, a sea of emerald green in the West, or flecked in white with pale pink and violet in tho East. Often from zenith to sensitive horizon the Heavens are suffused with lu minous lights of varying shades, or ablaze with vast conflagrationsr Then again wo havo islands with pearl-tintod strands, tessalated pavements, crimson-curtained cor ridors, mountains and mirages of marvellous magnificence. Truly Ho "who metoth out the heavens with a span," "flndeth tho sweet inlluonco of tho ploiados and loosoth the bands of orion," hath caused "tho heavens to de clare tho glory," that man might enioy tho grace and grandeur of Jehovah's works. But, alas, tho enchanting scene of tho woodlands was but evanish ing, and dissolving the beautiful loaves havo fallen, and "marched a million strong." Thoy admon ish us that man is mortal and doth fall as falls tho loaf. In view of this fact wo should learn that "tho dutios of lifo are greater than lifo itself," and "that their most rofined realization is to be found in tho service of hu manity." R. H. Greneker.
