Soldier of Two Wars Celeb rat oh j His 80th Itirthday On February 25th, 1904, Mr. 1 Aaron Adams, living near Primus, ^ had the pleasure of meeting many * of his children and grandchildren * and other friends at his home. * Twenty three grandchildren, two sons and three daughters were 1 present, and in all there were 63 ^ present for dinner. It was a very * solemn occasion to meet with one ^ of the oldest veterans in the east- ' em part of the county, as all took c leave lor home not knowing that I we would meet again in this life. 1 Mr. Adams was a member of the ' famous l'almetto Regiment in 1 Mexico, of which its last survivor ' will soon have passed away and 1 the time cannot be long, lor Lan * caster county has only three living?Ca-pt. McManus and Mr. v Clanton being the other two. I s notice only a few days ago the p 1 \st, one of York county's Mexican 1 soldiers passed away to join the roll-call in the world beyond, t Our government gives each one a c small pension which helps them 1 in their old age, and although r they served in the Confederate 1 war and took part in some of the 1 hardest-fought battles and were b wounded, yet our proud Palmetto State will not allow a Mexican J BOiuier mac draws ironi ine y.fc v govern trie nt a pension. Thous- a amis are drawing from the state that are no more worthy than are n these Mexican soldiers. My ex v perience is that nothing is lair in o war, and not much in time of h peace. t Long may the old veterans live ]: and may they have many, many ^ birthday dinners yet and meet f with their children and friends, a Confederate Veteran. v Treasurer of Barnwell Short ' t SI I,00 t A shortage of almost $11,500 has been found in tlie accounts j of E. 1).
