REUNION OF 1)11)1. FV CHOI it. ^ Pleasant Day Spent by Singers and Their Friends?lion. J. M. Hough's Address?Notes. Eighteen years ago a choir was organized at Dudley Haptist church, 15 miles south of here, in Chesterfield county, S. C. For number of years I he choir met almost every week lor practice. It was composed ol' good talent and made good music. But the boys and girls composing the choir grew up. Home ties were broken and the choir scat- ( tered. Others came in to take the place of those who left, and a good choir has been in existence all these years. A lew weeks , ago it was decided to have a , reunion of the otd choir and Friday, August 21st, was the day lor the reunion. Not only all ] the-members of the old choir , were present, but a great many , of their friends assembled to ^ make merry with them. The | large church was full to overflow- . ing. . Tllft flitrlif rvl' has wrought many changes in the ( olcl choir, but time has dealt . gently, lor nearly all who joined t ihat choir eighteen years ago are , livitig. Some of the hoys then { are grizzled men now and short skirted girls then are called , ^mauim.i" now, hut that choir ( can make music, as was shown last Friday when a great many , of the selections the choir first , learned were rendered and rendered well. , Mr. Thomas Funderburk/jne ot i the leaders in Dudley church and 1 Sunday school had matters in 1 charge at the reunion and it is needless to say that he managed ] them well. He is the kind of a s man who makes a gre t success ] of everything he attempts. j Mr. Funderburk announced at j the beginning of Ihe exercises j that no program had been arrang ed, that it was a day lor everyone to have a good time in any orderly way and-that if music was wanted it would ho furnished 1 and if an address was wanted , l his old friend and neighbor, Hon. J. M. Hough, who was for so many years the Hand horse1' in Dudley church and Sunday school, hut who moved away to " Another county, was present* and would make an audress. Alter some good music by the old choir, led by Mr. Henry Kunderburk, who bus been the faithful loader of the choir all * these years, Hon. J. M. Hough was called on and made a talk to . ins old friends and neighbors, which was greatly appreciated, tp lie told of the work of Dudley church and Sunday school and paid high tiibute to the living and the dead who had toiled and labored thore 111 by-gone days, lie told his hearers that lie had I no "sel speech" add would dimply 1 talk tr? them about Ihemselves and said that he had no apology for calling names ' and talking 1 about his old neighbors. Mr. 1 Hough made a good talk. After the address came dinner, which '.van in greatest abundance, 1 ? and ol the very heat. We make tins statement about umner to those who have never be#?p to 1 Dudley. To those who have ' A been there that statement is ?u- i pertluous. dia During Mr. Hough's address siai he relerred to Mr. Phil. Snipes', pat an old and decrepit Confederate vill soldier, living not tar from Dud- on ley, who led the charge against and the Federal breastwork at Ream's the station, the most heroic and dar- > ing act he over saw, declared Mr. atti Hough. "The old man is now in ne? poverty," said the speaker, "but woi l'hil. Snipes would die before he tori would ask alms. I am' going i back by his house and if anyone riol wants togive anything to as brave wei a soldier as ever shouldered a sev musket I will take pleasure in lie\ bearing him your material tokens sai( of appreciation." It is needless am to say that contributions were 1 liberal. iy Mr. Thos. Funderburk also Jol stated that their was another old wei soldier in the neighborhood who on was in needy circumstances, nar uUncle Johnny Fuuderburk" as try he is known throughout that offe section, and he wanted him re- tav* tnembered onj^is happy occasion, lost A contribution was taken for dea both the old soldiers and people lat< jave glaely and freely to both. Yo The .afternoon was spent in jail listening to selections from the unt ^ld choir, which never tired of wh unging their former songs, and to ohn short talks by a number present No who were asked to stand up and J U,, the nng."
