Karageorgevitch was pro claimed king. Ilwt he ought to fce assassinated lor wearing t-uch a name. . before the Servian congress elected Karageorgevitch king ef Servia Moiulav to succeed Alexander, they passed a reso lution granting amnesty to all those who had any part in the assassination of King Alexan der and Queen Draga. The meaning of that is that they are glad the assassination was . done and that there is to be no investigation or trial of the guilty parties. Those people are about on a parity with that Kentucky county where things are in si|ch a wretched shape and where lawlessness is stalking abroad. , ~ 1 Dr E. M Potoat, who was last week elected to the presi dcncy of Furman University, was a class mate of I)r Hoi dridge while in the seminary at Louisville, and Dr Boldridge has a very exalted opinion of Dr. 1 'oteat's ability to till well the place to which he has been ealled The election of Dr Poteat, he thinks, makes a new era in the usafulness of Furman University and in the cause of education in this state. Ho is said to be a man of strong and attractive personality, modest, unassuming, scholarly and cultured and has been successful ?--v. in every position ho has occu pied. We hope Lancaster county will send a dozen young men to Furman this fall. The contributions to the Clifton and Pacolet sufferers amounted to about $20,000. The relief committee have sent ?ut the following : "The relief committee and the people of Spartanburg city and county feel profoundly grateful for the heroic services and generous contributions rendered to the Hood stricken sufferers by the outside world. Theirs was a generosity un bounded by lines and limited only by ability to give. Every telegraph and telephone wire and every train entering our city brought unmistakable evidence of their sympathy and loyalty to the distressed. 80 abundant and spontaneous have their donations been that ample means are now provided to relieve all want, and the hearts of our people have gone out in in expressible gratitude to these humane benefactors.
