Shelby, June 19.?As the mixed train, v passenger and freight, leaving hero this morn ing at 9 o'clock for Marion, on the South Carolina A* Georgia Extension Railroad, was crossing a trestle 250 feet long and 75 feet high over the river, two miles north of this place, just beyond the highest point, the trestle gave way and the coach and four freight cars went down, completely deRtrnvinc cars and ennr.h Some 15 passengers were on board. Mr. Lee Griggs, of this place, was killed. Several others were shaken up and bruised, including (he conductor, Mr. Turner, who is receiving treatment iiere at the Central Hotel. It is strange that none of the passengers were badly hurt or killed. Had the trestle given way while passing over the river, all no doubt would have been killed or seriously hurt. The trestle, except which spans the river, is wood. The engineer, Mr. Ogburn, realized something was giving way and pulling the throttle wide open, thereby saved part of the train of freight cars. The engine and some cars had passed over before the trestle gave way. Thursday evening as the passenger train was on the same road just beyond Henrietta a man by the name of Dobbin Uarrill, who was asleep on the track, was run over and instantly killed. lie was known to be a sober and industrious man and it seems strange that ho would have selected such a resting place. He had complained of being sick and it is thought that he sat down to rest and fell asleep. BRILLIANT MARRIAGE Of a Famous Lancaster Roy and a Daughter of York.
