For lack of pace wo omitted much we anted to say, and only called attention to what seemed to us thd most important fact discussed, namely, that 'man and the universe were created by the direct exercise of the power of God, and not evolved out of pre-existent matter by slow processes of development, extending through vast periods of time. The facts this book undertakes to establish are: 1st. That all life was destroyed in the eastern and western continents. 2nd. That every creaIture has been fossilized. 3rd. That America is the great Eden country. 4tli. That there is no fossil oldor than man. 5th. ^ That creation was in time and that not very long ago Oth. That since the Hood,, for a period of 4,000 years, the two Americas, North and South, remained silent as an old grave ^ yard, and were in fact God's . burial ground; and 7th, as to \ 9 the sit^ of Eden. In the discussion of those seven proposi tions msnop lveoner brings to bear facts gathered from many >vellauthenticated sources which . ^ go far to prove the correctness of his propositions. In regard to the locatioon of the Garden of Eden, he says: "It is probable that it was on a very high table land and was surrounded by a wall of rock, difficult to scale and guarded by angels; that it enclosed a large area of diversified surface of fertile, well watered woodland; that it remained from tlie fall to the flood, in sight, ? bat unapproachable; that it v. as the last point to give way under the terrible storm that swept the whole earth of its life?probably remaining until by earthquake or volcano tho earth's surface took its present outline. No more extensive or remarkable fossil beds have been found than the deposits on tho Ashley river near Charleston, 8. C., on the sea coast, and extending ten miles inland. Throe distinct beds belong to this formation. First, the marine, composed of gray, sandy clay, in which are em ^bedded innumerable small shells of a species now common and living on tho coast; and many large shells, in tho posi tion they occupied while living, having both* valves entire and # - _ ? - ?
