Senator Marshall'** Measure to' Abolish Child Labor. The lirst bill introduced in the . general assembly is what is generally regarded the most important measure that will come before that body this session Senator J. Q. Marshal of Iiiehiand has the honor of introducing the hill which is intended to put a stop to the employment of children in the cottn mills of the State. At the last session Senator Marshall made a most gallant light for this reform and deserted the victory which he came so near achieving. This year he will try it again and has lately receiv d assurance of additional | support from influential quarters., A year ago a plea was made lor the postponement of action} "u this line 011 the grounds that the mill men of this State would bo placed at a disdvantage it such a law were enacted when there was no such law in NorthCarolina and Georgia. It was intimated ] that cotton mill presidents would . \ gree on h satisfactory solution | i?i his passing problem if given j nine. As the mill men have t made public no agreement or , notion of this sort the advocates ( of the measue feel it their duty t t ? present this matter again to t t tie legislature. Since the lust session there has been a groat \ deal of discussion on this topic c and those who have kept up with | \ >e trend of public sentiment, say t mat it is much more favorable to the measure than before and that : 1'<e demand for the abolition of child labor is remarkably strong '1 i.o press of the State is very 1 generally in favor of some legis 1 1 ition on this lino, specially as * li is realized that the cotton mill ' industry of South Carolina is too ? .
