John Izard, an industrious old colored man aged about 60 years, dropped dead in the field where he was plowing Monday morning about 10 o'clock.. Bel ton McDow with whom he worked had talked to him about half an hour before and heard no complaint. Belton thinks it probable that Tzard drank too much cold water, though he does not know that to f be the case. Coroner Young went down and organized a jury of inquest and rendered the following verdict: That he came to his death from 0 heart failure. Stole Beef Vow From the I'anture Capers Cauthen, colored, was arrested Monday morning, charg ed with stealing live stock. It appears that Messrs. W. M. Var nidore and Alex Harris had some beef cattle in a pasture of Mr. 8 A Mcllwain, about five miles south of town, and that last Fri day Capers Cauthen betook him self down there and stole one ol them, brought it to town and offered it tor sale to the butchers here and finally sold it to Luke Qalvin, colored. Mr. Mcllwaine came to town Monday morninc early and notified Mr. Varnidorc of what had happened. Mr. Var nidore began to look around and ^ soon found that Capers had sold a cow to Luke, He aaked Luke to see the hide and found that he at once knew it was his cow that Capers had stolen and sold to Luke. Accoidingly a warrant was sworn out and placed in the riHH HKSn " / hands of an officer, and soon the ' sleek Capers was behind the bars. A preliminary was held before Magistrate Caskey yesterday and the case was sent to the circuit court. Another indictment has also been issued against the "slick" Capers, charging him with stealing another cow sometime ago. This cow v> \s stolen from i Mr. S. A. Mcllwaine's pasture, 1 brought to town and sold to Mr. ! J. M. Iiood, who sent the cow to i i his pasture by Capers. It is said j that soon thereafter Capers stole ( the same cow out of Mr. Hood's , pasture and sold it to one of the markets here. ' A Delightful Lawn Party. I | A lawn party was held Monday evening at the Baptist parsonage I at which ice cream, cake and lem ' onade were served. The proceeds amounted to $14 and and some cents, which will be used for car t peting the new church. It was 1 an ideal evening for such a party 1 and all who attended enjoyed it 1 very much.
