To he hound hand and font for venra by the chains of disease is .the worst form of slavery. Georjfe D. Williams, of Manchester, Mich., tells how such a slave was made free. He says: "My, wife has been so helpless for live years I that she could not turn over in bed | alone. After using: two bottles of Elec- i trie Bitters, she is wonderfully im- i proved and able to do her own work." This supreme remedy for female dis i eases quickly cues nervousness, sleep- [ lessness, melancholy, headache, hackache, fainting; <tnd dizzy spells. This miracle working: medicine is a godsend to weak, sickly, run down people. Every bottle guaranteed. Only r?Oc. Sold by Crawford Bros., Druggist. ?> Carolina and N. W. Railroad. Yorkville, Juno 2.?The work ' of broadening the gauge of the Carolina and N o r 1 liwcs t e r 11 j Railroad has been commenced: at Lincolnton, N. C , and the understanding is that it will he pushed with the greatest energy until completed. Quite a unique arrangement is being pursued The rails now in use are rather too liffht for standard trnurre <01 cd ' n n gincs and a third rail, therefore, would hardly afford as good a track as is desirable, so upon standard gauge ties both narrow and standard gauge rails are being laid, and until the work is completed and for as long thereafter as may be deemed proper the present narrow gauge rolling stock can be used along with such standard gauge iolling stock as may hereafter be purchased. While tlie work of making the gauge standard both ways from Lineolnton is in J progress, a corps of surveyois will complete the location of | i 4 v t the route into Teuuosseo. It is <>f expected that tlie road will ho tli standard gauge from Chester to at Lonoir by next November and to that the extension into Tonnes- T< see will be completed very re shortly thereafter.?News and m Courier. M." appears in your issue of June 2. e He says : "I will take the Bible j, for my standard." Yet he asserts that he is a Prohibitionist. t( How can a Prohibitionist say p that he takes the Bible for Ins a standard (or guide) when he 0 advocates the prohibition of the (j execution of its mandates? In n Proverbs xxxi-6, we are com- ^ manded to "Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, p and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts." How can this p be done by Prohibitionists? ]j They seek to proliibit the sale rf of "wine and strong drink." They not only refuse to obey l, this command, but also seek to ]) prohibit others from doing so. I n "I). P. II." denounces as devils jp those who advocate obedience' to the laws of God, rather thani'r submission to the dictates of fanatical Prohibitionists. lie also charges those who obey the k command contained in Proverbs 0 xxxi-(> as supporters of a "hell n bound traffic." Such charges' plainly indicate their source,! and renders their author un-l worthy of notice. But out of respect to the honest and worthy advocates of prohibition, we tl feel it to be our duty to ignore p the personjility of the author ofjC) such ridiculous assertions. Nojjj assertion of "J. K. M." has been i t| refuted by "D. P. II." in his p socalled rephr. Ilis <|uotations C( from the Bible are merely tigur- ,, ative expressions, and are so I ^ stated by Hitchcock in hisanal-jC( ysis of tho Bible; therefore, j] they could not ho used to sot j ;i lywUldlltory cl?\l!S" of S'lid M Bible. Therefore,. 1 will not (; trespass further on the claims v of^he Entkri'RIsk in replying 0 to the prejudiced effusion of a "P. P. II.," the Prohibitionist. e, .1. It. M . I v I J' Mr. W. S. Whedon, cashier of the First National bank of Winterset, I .1 Iowa, in a recent letter gives some experience with a carpenter in his I N employ, that will be of value to other s< mechanics. He says: "I had acarpen- J . ter working for me who was obliged ' to stop work for several days on ac- 1 p count of being troubled with diar- ! n rhoea. I mentioned to him that I had . been similarly troubled and that j " chamberlain's Colic, cholera and hiarrhoea Remedy had cured me. lie bought a bottle of i' the drug-, v gist here and informed me that one 1 M dose cured him, and he is again at his 01 work."
