When, therefore the very large :rop of last year made it manifest hat the acreage had increased jevond both official and almost ill commercial estimates, it was letermined to institute a special ind very thorough investigation nto the entire crop situation this rear. The productive area last rear is found to have boon 25, JUU,UUU acres, aim man ror tne present year to bo about 23,500,)00 acres, with a probability that die final returns will show the present acreage to hare been heow rather than abov.ethe amount stated. The investigation discloses >ne of the smallest, average yields per acre in many years, and in estimating the total crop at a maximum of 9,500,000 bales, a substantial and most ample allowance hss been made for any tendency, to take a too pessimts tic view of the situation, the actual indications at the present moment pointing to a crop of less than 9,000,000 bale?. The report further says : "In his capacity as cotton expert to the United States commission, the statistician has had the preparation of the United States 30tton exhibit for the Paris exposition, and his duti s in that ;onnection have afforded him additional facilities for ascertaining the actual condition of the 3rop in every part of the country. I'he unimpeachable evidence that has come to him in that capacity is in everv way confirmatory of the most unfavorable official reports." THE CONSTITUTION'S ESTIMATE. Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 14.?The Constitution, which has all the teason been advocating higher prices for cotton, will publish tomorrow estimations ef the crop |rom promineat mea in the cotton growing States. Arkansas and Alabama place the estimations at 8,500 bales; Tennessee places the figur-) at 8,300,000; Mississippi at 8,750,000, while Texas and and South Carolina give their estimations at 8,000,000 each.
