The story of the sensation dates
back to last February. Childers, e
who is a shady character, had under
his control a Utrnv iwhita lw?
who went by the name of Gilbert ^
Cross and a bound negro boy ?
named A1 Freemster.
About .'the 18th of February *
Feemster was charged with theft. v
The people who made the charge I1
were relying on the evidence of 1
Gilbert Cross. On the next day, 1
Sunday, Cross disappeared, but
the fact did not develop publicly v
until Monday, when Childers was *
taken before a magistrate for a s
preliminary examination. A1 ?
Freemster, who is somewhat ^
weak minded, stated that he and
Childers had killed Cross on the 6
day before and buried the body 11
in a ditch. He subsequently re- 11
versed his statemeut, but as the *
result of it a strict search was in- 8

In answer to questions, Childers "
claimed that on the day before he *
had induced Cross to leave the
neighborhood and go to North v
Carolina. lie stated that it was c
Cross who was guilty of the theft ^
that was being investigated, and p
it was on that account that he v
had advised Cross to run away. c
The people hunted the country f
over without getting the slightest 1
clue and the whereabouts of the 1
missing boy. "
Childers was convicted of the J
theft?petty larceny?paid his ^
fine and went free. The aiTair ^
blew over for the time and uoth- j
ing more was heard from it until
the past few days.
On Wednesday of last week, t
Mr. John Mcllwain picked up a j
short distance from Bullock's t
creek a rather peculiar looking
fragment of a skeleton. Lie
thought he had found the skele- g
ton of a fox's foot and others dis- r
agreed with him, believing that t
it was probably the foot of a dog. 1

Uncle Joshua moved among
them filled with untold joy and
pride, as he beheld the company
of his own large household. He
has been certainly greatly blessed

Not only has he been spared
to length of days, honor and love,
but spared to see three generations

are to-day living 109 children,
grand-children and great grandchildren.
There were 106 gathered
there at the re union. Among
such a large number, and so many
families only 8 have been called
away by the Lord. The day was
spent in conversation and etrolling
about the old homestead. A
bountiful dinner was served in
the yard, provided by his children
to which special attention was
paid by all present. In the afternoon
the crowd gradually dispersed
each declairiug and feeling
that they had spent a pleasant,
and profitable day. The fami

As we looked upon the sceue
presented we thought of the joy
unspeakable which must have
filled uncle Joshua's heart as he
beheld this great company of his
own house?to know that God had
spared him and his so loug?to
feel that his life?his inlluence
had touched fashioned theirs?all
trying to follow his steps, as he
had so long and faithfully tollowed
his Christ?of all his many
sons and daughters all, old
enough, are members of the
church of God, trying to make
their way to a "better country?
even an heavenly country" Not
one by a Godless, wild, and reckless
life has brought a blush of
shame or tears of disappointment
to this aged patriarch of the Lord.
Verily the promise of the Lord
to him have been revealed?
"With long life will I satisfy him."
?"he shall see his children's children"
and rejoice. May the sunset
of his life be more beautiful
than the sunset of earth?and
when he has finished his course,
may he work with Christ into the
) land of limitless days.
