LAN ?VOL. IX. * iMSICMf MiweaS I Many persons have their good day and their bad day. Others re about half sick all the time. They have headache, backache, and are restless and nervous. Food does not taste good, and the digestipn is poor; the skin is dry and sallow and disfigured with pimples or eruptions; sleep brings no rest and work Is a burden. What is the cause of all this? Impure blood. And the remedy? ryi It clears out the channels through which poisons are carried from the body. When all impurities are removed from the blood nature takes right hold aNy and completes the cure. If there is constipation, take W Ayer's Pills. ' They awaken the drowsy action of the liver; they cure biliousness. g Wrttm to ?bi> Doctor, 8 J We have the exclusive service* of 9 r1 some of the most eminent physician* In [ the United States. I ^ AST E = LANCASTER THE PRESIDENT DEPRESSED Unexpected Riflleulties ii^ the Philippines and Fear That Another Call tor Volunteers Will be Required. Haiti more Sun. Washington, D. C., April 24. ?All callers at the while house today wero informed that the president was indisposed and was compelled to deny himself to vis itors. White house officials in a quiet way intimated that the president had an attack of neuralgia in the tace, but would he all right in a day or two. The president, it is believed, did take cold in his teeth on Friday last, while on the l'otoinac river. But it was not the physical ailment altogether which disinclined hint today to give audience to general callers. It may be sought to produce a contrary impression, but it is absolutely correct that the president is very much depressed by the situation in the Philippines. Not only this, but the contemplation of the other complications which will, it is now seen, eventually grow out of our expansion policy is more than sufficient to produce disquiet and apprehension in the mind of the man who is responsible for the conditions which exist and responsible for the satisfactory determination of the same. It needs no prophet, to forecast that sooner or later the president will have no alternative but to call for the volunteers provided for in the act of congress. It has been several times semi officially announced there would be no I necessity for this. There will be, ' if we are to hold on to the Philippines, and constantly the answer to all arguments by the opposition is that wo can not afford i to let go. A very high government official said tonight: "We ' I U_1J -L 1 >? - . I iiiiisi nuiu uii. even snouiu 11 laKe half a million of men." The r : cost in money he did not consider I worth while to discuss. While denying himself to out siders the President was not too 1 busy today to see several members of the cabinet, including the t secretary of war, with whom he I talked long over the news from ' the East. The president is bit > terlv disappointed at the protracted and stubborn resistance which the army is meeting in the ' Philippines. lie truly had not the least idea of such a thing when ho concluded to insist upon the cession of the islands. Now such a Vision of immensity opens up that it may well trouble his \yaking and his sleeping hours. i The treasure to be dropped from the rollers of this country in this ' far-off land is a consideration i quite serious enough of itself, ' when compared with the prob able equivalent. Ear more than this, infinitely more, are the daily lives offered up as a daily sacrifice with ttie most insignifit , cant results. 1 Military, naval, diplomatic and t * > * * 0 k en' BEMI-WERKLY.
