The fire is supposed to have or iginated by sparks from tiie engine pulling the evening train which leaves here at 4 o'clock. It was a wooden structure and cost between $12,000 and $14,000, land was insured for $ 1,."?00. The fire, it seems, started near the middle of the bridge. A colored man .who runs the pump and looks after the bridge says that! he followed the train over and that he saw no sign of tire ar the time. Several feet of trestle work on each side of the river was saved by cutting away the burning timbers. No time will be lost in building a new one. ./vireauy, an engine! has been telegraphed for to come' over the S. C. ?Sr (J. road. Traffic will then bo partially resumed.! The transfer at the river will be made by means of a Mat, similar to the one used some years ago i 11 has been sugge sted by severa | parties that when the company! builds a new bridge that they j build one suitable for vehicles,! etc. to cross. 11 would be a great j convenience to those living on the other side and would place them 1 in easy access to Lancaster, where 1 they w ould doubtless do most of J tneir trading.
