Mr. Stradley ^ e refused this, saying he did not e want to harm his wife's brothers. ^ h The letter in Mr. Stradley's if hands at the time of the attack ^ g( i; was one from a Northern house o offering him a lucrative position n on the road. The Ivys say they g ottered him a $50 a month posie tion in Rock Hill and that he replied that he would not work for 11 less than $2,000 a year. It was reported on the street that the attack was the result of ir Mr. Stradley's sending his wife an I. abusive letter, but Frank Ivy a d positively denied this and said j i- that no such letter was 'received ^ from Mr. Sttadley. w ' The Ivys made no statement at e the trial and put up no witnesses. \ ). They pleaded guilty as to Morris ^ r. Ivy through their attorney, who t| is said that they contended that { d they were justifiable on account it of the great provocation, although ^ h they were technical'v guilty of t an insignificant violation.
