Mr. John J. Bowers died at tho home of his father Mr. K. D. Bowers in Flat Creek Sunday at 11:30 o'elOck, a. in., from the effects ot a surgical operation which was performed on Tuesday of last week. Mr. Bowers suffered with rheumatism several years ago from exposure while at work at the llaile Cold Mine. lie got better and afterward went to North Brookfield, N. S. to put in a lot of stamps for a gold mining concern there. While there he tell upon the ice one day and hurt hi< knee. It grew worse and worse j till he came home out. ot the! severe climate ot Scotia last Feb 1 ruary. For some time after hisi return he was at the home of a kinsman, Mr. Bowers at Kershaw. Brasington, to undergo the operation of amputating his left leg ahove the knee. The operation was performed by his physician, assisted hy Dr. M. 1'. Crawford of thi> place, lie rallied from the shock and was thought to he doing well till Saturday night when he took a turn for the worse, and gradually i grew worse ami worse till death j came to Ins relief. .John was an excellent fellow, a hard working, upright man. He leaves one child, a son, aged about years. Besides a policy of $2,000 life insurance in the agency of .Mr. A. .J. Flues paid. .Notice of a motion for a new tiial in the JameB Burton case was given by the attorney for the defense. The case against Ben Charley Ilinson for murder is set for trial today, and with some minor cases that were disposed of yesterday after we went to proas, that will end the business of the court of ^'-nnral sessions. The grand jury made their report yesterday and were dismissed just before the court adjourned for dinner. The report is brief hihI contains nothing of special interest. The criminal business being over, the court of Common I'leas will be opened and civil business will be taken up.
