The Femocratic County Convention convened in the Court House on Mon day, a:'d nominated a full county ticket. The noticeable feature of the Con ventiona was that it was not at all d ninated by the town, but was coin posed largely of good and sterling men from the country. The ticket nomi nated is a very strong one. It i- nlot tain:ed with Populixn, and we are sure that it is not the product of a ring. - All tlosc who are opposed to Third P1artyismn, Populism and l zingism and who desire the promulgation of genu ine Deiocrat-c principles Ai uld give their tupport to the ticket. In the language of the resolution adopted by the Convention, it is an appeal to Democrats. The ticket shoiild win. THE DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION. The Democratic Convention met in the Court House Monday at 12 o'clock The meeting was called to order by County Chaiirman J. W. hlanahan, who stated the object of the meeting. Stewart as secretary, and Jno. Hellis as vice-chairman. A County Chairman was voted for and resulted ia the election of J. W. Hlanahan. J. M. Stewart was elected secretary, and Jno. Hollis was elected v-ice-chairman by acclimation. Mr. Bulow moved to exclude all not in sympathy with the movement Op posed by J. D. Hlarr-ison and Maj. Woodward. The motion was lost. Mr. Manahan then read the call upon whieh the meeting was based. Mr. Bray moved that one delegate from each club be appointed to nomi nate a ticket. Laid on table by motion of S. F. Cooper. Maj. Woodward moved that no nomi nations be made until after the con i-cntion meets in Columbia on the 17th. S. F. Cooper moved to lay this motion on the -table. This motion called for-th considerable discussion, there being eight or nine speeches. Major Wood ward tifaly withdrew this motion. there being no opposition to the with draisal. Mr. Buow then moved that nmina tions be made from thme floor. Voted down. Mr Brown moved that two dele gates from each climb be- appointed a committee to nominate a ticket. Mr. Stewart atinended by inserting one delegate to be appointed by the chair. Ca: ried. E-mch chairman was appoint edl N. represenit his club. Bray; Supervisar of Ilegistration, A. M. Wallace. The report was adopted and the parties named were declared the nomi nees of the Democratic party of Fair field. Ilanahan that the Fairfield delegates favor the nomination of a full State ticket at Co umbia on the 17th. Carried. The neeting then ad joureiid. He died Wednesday night of typhoid dsenterv. lie had been sick but a siort time, yet his life had beenI des paired of, and his family anld friends 3 were prepared for the wor-t several days before the end came. ie died, in his seventieth year. .surrounded by loving children and fiends, and inothi ing was left undonte that could have been done to minister to his comfort and add to his life, lie calmly fell to sleep, with his heart an I eyes upon11 those he loved. lie wvas buried from the l'resby terian church, Thursday afternto in, at 3 o'cloek, Rev. M. A. A. Blanton, T. 31. Kirby,. J. P. Fann, W. 11. Kirk. John Graves and W. RI. Davis. John Townlev came to Dalton int 1867, from Coluinbia', S. C., and had lived here ever since. He had for years been one of Dalton's cleverest, cleanest business mcen, and hatj served the city in several positions of honor and of trust. He was beloved by ail; the remark, "lie was the best man I ever knew" having been heard r peadly yesterday. Even the negroes F loved him, and their tribute to his memory was otne of intense sorrow, coupled with the remark, "lie was mighty good to us! The Argus joins the community in extending sympathy to the bereaved ~ family. Mr. John Townley' married a daughi-1 ter of the late T. D. Oxner and is a brother-in-law of Mrs. Fatnnie Smith of this place. We extend sympathy to the bereaved otnes.
