AGIRWDI'URE. Tn turnip crop is one of the most important in our system of farm rotation but it is one that is more generally ne glected than any other. It is not so valuable a orop as parsnips, carrots or beets, so far as its teeding value is con cerned, but it can be produced at less cost than the others. Beets, cariots and parsnips should go in early, in or der to get a good start in growth, but we have the advantage of being able to defer the putting in of turnip seed till July, after the new crop of seed is rea dy, and cultivation is carried on during a period when no other crops are being seeded. Considering the cost of pro duction, the turnip crop should be a special one on every farm. They keep well during winter, and not only serve an excellent purpose when sliced and fed in the iaw state, but can also be cooked and mixed with other food. Not only are the roots valuable, but the tops also-there Is no part wasted. By weig it they produce heavily, and are not deli cient in bulk when compared with many other crops. The most essential feature connected swith the cultivation of turnips is to make the seed bed ilne. The seeds are very swall, and must not be deeply cov ered, and no lumps or other obstruc tions should be tolerated on the loca tion intended for them. In procuring seed get that which has matured this season, and use it liborally,as this plant is often attacked by the turnip fly, whioh is very destructive. Turnips may be sown broadcast on ground that has been cultivated and kept clear and freo from grass and wteods the previous yotr;"but they should never lollow corn, experi ence having demonstrated that such re lation does not result well. The seed may be sown in drills--tho drills to be of such distance apart as serves best for either the hoe or the cul tivator. Witeu they are high enough to thin out, an ordinary hoeu will out away all that, are not desired, leaving the muost vtgorous plaintts; and hand pickiing is son,Otinies tecessary to thin out, the stouls that are left During all stttges of gron th the crop shioubt be kept Jree from 1ntru:ion o1 weeds anaet gross, as turtipls are siometimes over taken -y drought, durin4 wbich time it is absolutely ussoit.ial not only to keep down weub but, also to keep the soil louse by Irequeint cultivation. The best lertilzer for turnips is fiu per, phosphate; but the addlttion of a proputioi ci g tuauo and puttasi in soie shape will be beueiotal. DOMESTIO. GLA8s STAINING.-This is another branch of art that is very tascinating, and then the results are so admirable if done at all well, and when skillfuly ex ecuted the work Is very beautifuly and wonderfully effective. The process is simple. requiring delicacy of touch and a taste for color blending to a marked degree. These qualities are not so very scarce, and when lacking a little patience and close application will over com all such drawbacks. Spread over the glass to be worked upon gum water, and when it is dry lay it over the paper on which the design is sketched, and trace with a fline hair pencil all the out lines. The lights and shades are mere dots, lines and hatches, worked in after the style of engraving. Dip the tube like pencil into the colors and let them flow out upon the glass; have a care taLd touch the pencil to the glass; the lights and shades are produced in a variety of ways; one of the easiest, and ?specially to beginners, is to take a goose quill out it in the shape of a pen, wiihout the slit; then carefully take out the lights by lines and little dots. This part of glass staining is really the most particular since so much of its beauty is dependent upon the shadings being irtistically effected. After this process tho glass is ready for the kiln. on the bottom of wlhich is quite a thick bed of ilacked limo in a peifectly dry state, on which the sheet of glass is laid. The heat must be very gradual or the glass will break, and when the colors are properly burned in, the fire may cool ilown, and when out the glass is remov Wd and cleaned. The colors required for staining glass are red lead and red miatuel. Ttiese mixed together will ivo the flesh tint required-one ounce f the lorier and two ounces of the Ahor well mixed with alcohol-black, lull and brilliant black, rich brown, tlio red, green, yellow, blue, violet ny shade may be had by more or less ltx, winch is made of borax, flint glass, white stnid and pipe clay well mixed together.
