'M 7 d . Bx Rbr AaL.-A season of activi ty L9 near at hand. Spring is coinng with its presodg work. Are farmers ready for sowing and planting? Every implement should be provided beforehand, that no time may be wasted in making purchases or repairs after the work should begia. We have known a halt day of plowing to be lost because the whiffietrees were not at hand. Some farmers start out with their spring plowing without a single plowpolut in stock, and when one is needed, the team is taken from the field and driven to the store. Such a loss ot time is a serious mat ter, and should be thoughtfully guarded against by ample provision of all such arti cles of the farm. It Is a poor time to mend a barrow when it should be at work in the field. We do not favor that economy-if it may be so called-that relies upon the neighbors for many of the tools of the farm There are certain farm implements that may be owned In partnership,. as a roller or reaper, but the constant borrowing of rakes, forks, etc., is not a wise and econ omical practice. Be provided with all these essential farm tools, and have them In good order, and at band when the time arrives for using them. 1ow Is the time to look to these mat ters, and make all needed preparations for the busy days that will loon be here. In The peace of winter prepare for the war of spring. TAMI EnE.-One of the prime secrets of success in sheep breeding is to have quiet, tame animals. This is true in all branches of breeding, and ne truer or any than in sh(ep breedirg. A wild flock of sheep will not be as profitable as a tame flock of the same natural quality.- In order to have the sheep tame they shiuld always be treated in the ki;dest manner, and coniderably petted when that is prac tical. If a flockmaster begins early with the lambs, hancliog them often, aud be particularly cateful never to seate them,he will stand a pretty good chance of having a time flock; but it is scarcely necessary to say that he must see to it thit they are not harrassed by anybody or anything. 11 there is a dog on tho prem!Ees, keep him from interfering with the sheep, if you have to kill him. The flock is worth much more thau the dog. Hire help must be taught to go among shcep gently. Give ther good care, kind treatment, and pro tect them from the anoyances of the cuar acter we have named, aid the result will be a tame and quiet flock, if it has any natural merit in it, COLTS should not be permitted to stand on a plank, cement, paved or any hard floor the first year, as those are liable to seriously a ffect the feet and legs Unless the yard where the colts run in the winter has a sandy or fine, dry, qraVel!y soil, it should be well littered, so as to keep their feet dry. Mud or soft, wettish ground is '1 apt to make tender hoofs, no matter how well bred they may be. One reason why the horses in one district grow up superio, to those in ano,her in hoof, bone, muscle and action is bocause it has a dry himestone and silicious soil. When the mare is at work do not let the colt run with her; and if she comes back froim tier w ork heated, allow her to get cool beloto suckling the colt, as her overhetted milk Is liable to give the foal diarrL 0. Tru, following combination of figures will give a faint idea of the ceaseless, pa. tier.t and rapid work p)erformed by the honey bees auring the few ehort weeks when everything is favorable for a good honey harvest. 1t is a muatter of wonder that, the dlays of the w.-rk,'r are "d wjidedi t,o t,he shc.rrest span?'' 1t as estlmatedi tat. f. ~125 clover blossomis contain one gramm,e or sugar. As eachi t) oso ii conisists of GO cal3ces, at ktast. 120,000 by 110 or 7,500, 000 cal ces umust' to rifles to aniord a alto gramine of suacar, and as honey conatains 75 per cent. of sugar, it requirea 0,600.000 calyces of clover to 3 ield a ailograinme oft the former; hence we may asmaginie the countlhss number of flo)wersi that thce bec' must visit to l'e able to stuck their hives with honey. _____ TATr "E4astern methods" of farming are equally weli adapted to tihe baoad pirairies or the West is shown in the experience of Mr. A. lAier, who thirteen years ago moved fromn the E.ist to the high prairie land in Marshall cotanty. Out a strip of the plush of the right length to cover the logs, and sew it with silk of the same color, where it will be. least noticed. Uather the ends together, and sew them firmly. Nail the cover to the ends of the legs, and put a broad hoop around the cover, and nail it firmly to the cov. or and to the leZe. The legs tre crossed in the middle, and bound firmly with wire. A bow of bright o:lored ribbon is tied around the legs where they meet, to hide the joint. The top is covered with the plush drawn tight, and a lam brequin is ftted all around with braid or gimp over the seam. Out the lam brequin in one piece with scallops, aid pointed tabs alternately, bind them with ribbon, and hang chenille tassels to each point. The lambrequin may,be lined with silesia or muslin. Embroid ered work may be put on the latubrequin as well as in the centre of the cover. This makes a handsome light work ta ble. and if the top is made of a cheese box lined inside, and half the cover hinged with a lid, it will become useful and handy, as well as pretty. "JIhor $5?" "Yes'm," "To Saginaw?" "Yes'n." "To my hufband ?" "Yes'm. Please fill out a blank." She filled out three different ones before the writing suited her, and tried four different pens before she found a holder of the right build and color.
