BsT VAnRi IRS OF WHEAT.-At a recent mee*,ing of millers in Cicin nati, the comparative value of the difi erent kinds of wheat for fdouring pur poses was considered. It was found difficult to decide which should be de Oared best, on account of the modify ing influences of climate and soil in a territory measured by 23 deg. of lati tude and 57 deg. of longitude, an area of three and a quarter millions of square miles. It was declared that the same varieties growing In different States differ materially in milling val ue; that the Fife of Northern Min.eso ta and Dakota 1s far superior to the same kind grown in Lower Illinois and Wisconsin ; that the Iappahannock oi Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee, Is much richer in gluten than the same grown north of the Ohio River. Still the comittee venture Ito recom mend for milling purposess the follow Ing winter varieties: "Longberry Amber," Lancaster, Indluana Red, Alabama Orange, Velvet Chaff, Xtp pabannock and Jenninga. Tho first two are prifei red,being rich in gluLIn and valuable for shipping to warm ell matea. The tird 18 also very glutin OUS, as Is the Alabama, a varity that yields poorly in the harvest. The Jen nings is whole and hard, making flour of good color and strength. The Orange makes a family flour of f air strength,1i0h small proportion of off.i. The Rappahanneck is vatlable, not very rich, yielding a good family flour but Is easily daiagcd by moisture. The V Ivet Cia. is early, has a still straw, well adapted to rich soils,yields fairly in willing a product of goodi strength. C.awson and Fultz, both of which are varieties popular with grow era on account of their large yield, are unpopular with rilers, who declare them soft and weak, with little glu ten.
