AFi.E.-Twenty-flye turkeys will be rnflied at Our House this evening at 8 o'clock. 1t There have been several North Caro Jina wagons in town during the past weeks loaded with chickens. Christ mas Is coming and poultry must suffer. Tmz Fkcn LAw.-The House has passed to a third reading the bill changing the fence law in townships - six and eight. Notice of this bill was given in last week's paper. We notice large quantities of furni ture are being hauled out of town . these days, and there must be some significance in the fact. We wonder if any one is going to get married? There is a movement on foot by the young ladies and gentlemen of the town to get up a masquerade ball for their amusement. It is proposed to have it about the 4th of January, and further reports may be looked for. Trade seems to be looking up, and our streets were well filled with wagons and purchasers on Wednes day. Christmas is near at hand, poll tics have vanished, and all seem to an tici pate a grand Jubilee on that occa sion. The cotton market at this pilace con tinues to be a little better than any where else in this part of the country. Cotton sold freely at eleveni cents on Wednesday. 'This is a fair price, and no one0 has room to complain of hard times. Mr. J. Fleming Brown, formerly a resident of Winmnshoro, has come over to spend the holidays with his relatives and old friends in Fairfield. lie has been successfully engaged in teaching in Union county, and we hope lie may enjoy this brief respite fr'om profes sional labors. Pr'of. W. J. Miller will deliver a lec ture in the court house on Thursday ceening uponi the pr1inceiples of pen manship and book-keeping. H~e gives listr'uctions in these arts acco'.dling to Eastman's system. The lectmur'e is fr'ee to the public and all personis are cor dially invited to attend. We are pleased to note, as an ,evi donce of progressive spirit, the appear' ance of two new nmercamile firms In Winnsboro-Messrs. McMm'ster, Gail.. lard & Bi'ice and Joseph Elliott & Bros. These are both Juveniue firms, and will be In fill blast during Citrist mnas week. We wish them success. At the recent session of the Methu trict State Conference, the R1ev. G. W. Whitmnan, who was in char'ge of the * church at 'Winnsbor'o, wvas deposed Ikom the Christian ministry upon the charge of immoral conduct. Mr. Whitman surrendered his credentials, at the same time giving notice of an appeal to the General Confere'nce.
