This is a good criterion of the increase of business during the ftll and winter. Mr. J. B. Faulkner has received his commission as postmastei' at Black stock, in place of Mr. A. K. Craig, recently deceased, and has entered upon the discharge of his duties. The office is ono door north of the dry goods stord of J. E. Johtiston & Co. The Chester .Reporte.' has been en larggd to an eight-column paper, and I ierally itproved in style. Steps are being taken to erect a par sonage for the Methodist church at this place. A lot suitable for the pur pose and about three hundred dol lars in money have already been do, nated. The lot is the gift of Mrs. Joh'n Wilson, a member of thq cou gregation. O. T. Thompson, Esq., has been ap pointed by the Governor jury com missioner for Fairfield conit.y.- Thu appointment was made on the recon mendation of the delegation in the -"Ho1use, Anmd ve:feel sure wvill give uni versal satisfaction. .The colored Methodists of this place have begun the erection of their - uew church,,and they expect to have it ready for use, though not entirelhy finished, in a few weeks. The grist:and saw mills ad jhdtg, run by the same engine, were saved. Mr. McKeown sustains a loss of about $1200. No insurance. Prof. N. Schmnitt, the well-known mnusic-teacher'and piane-tuner, is now in Winnsboro, ready to do any busi ness in his line. It has now in the country 1,901 lodges with sixty-six thousand active members. Within the six years of its existence the order hag distributed and paid in benefits from its widows' and orphans' fund $2,061,9:10.61. The Knights of Honor is agraind, organized, systematic charity. The association is also of great advantage by elevating its members socially and, morally, and is most beneficial in its relief of suffering and prevention of poverty, and is there fore a benefit to the whole communi ty even outside of its own organiza tion. Its stability and soundness have been thoroughly tested, and the plpdges of its members can be relied on, as has been proved. The system is much more economical and reliable than the established systems of life insurance. The Knights paid in the yellow fever season of 1878 $500,000 in benefits, without difficulty. Desportes & Co. have Just received a car-load of Avery Wagons, which will be sold at prices to compete with Columbia. *18-1no Tiw, FI:As-rauvIL.E GREENBACKERS. -The Chester Bulletin of last 'rues day says: "Mr. J. Hendrix McLean, the leader of the Greenback move ment at Feasterville, went -to Wash ington last Thursday, to attend a con vention of the Greenbackers, and the meeting of the executive committee. The convention meets on the 8th. .Ie inforns us that he intends to thor oughly canvass Chester county for his party during this year's campaign and fiemly believes that his doctrine will meet with popular favor. Mr. Mc Lean certainly has a stronger heart than we have to attempt to discuss the financial questions before the people of this section, especially with a view to wean them front the Democratic party. Many good Democrats, to our own knowledge, favor a Greenback policy, but we doubt whether they will go outside the Democratic fold to nurse their hobby. Mr. McLean says the club at Feasterville is composed of about thirty members. They are some of the best citizens in that country. We know some of them, and know them to be good and true men." Goon Smxs IN BLACKSTOCK.-The Chester Reporter says: "From a citi zen of our neighboring town who called on us last Monday we are pleas ed to learn that matters are looking up in that lively little burg. Forward is the word there. The citizens of the place are filled with the spirit of en terprise and progress, materially and morally. A commodious and hand some academy building is in process of erection, and a school of high grade is sion to be opened. A neat and coin fortable church building is about being oe>mpleted by the Methodists of the community. This makes four chuiirch es in or near the townu-three wvhite, Baptist, Presbyterian and Methodist, and one colored Presbyterian. -The movement towards forming a new county, we are assured, means busi ness; the proposed county to be carved fiVomj portions of Chester and Fairfield, it8 liiits reaching in this dlirectiou as far as the residoepce of Mr. Thomas Shannon six mniles from Chester, and extendinfa feyv miles below Yon guesville, in Fali-fild county. It was iiot stated to us, but of course the new county must have a newspaper. Tlie business of the town has been quite brisk for the past season. More cotton has been sold there than for several years past. The littte towni is up and doig and gaining at every jump." The greatest anxiety is experienced lest, there should be a flaw in the .title to property; yet a flaw in the title of health-a cough or cold-is disregard ed.
