These canals were part of the genmeral system of navigation which included the Santee Canal, but they were not used for any considerable length of time. If' only these shoals were made navigable, it would be of gr'eat benefit to the counities of Chesteri, Faifold, Lancaster and Ker shaw. Mr'. Daniel Wells, of Lancaster county, has built him a cotton boat in which lie pr'oposes to tramnsport cotton this year as far at least as Acton, on the Wilmington Road. While Northern States are r'eceiving liberal appropriations for trout streams and mountain torrients, It is a shame that such a flne water way is. thte Watfer'ee River should1( be neglected. We hope that Col. Evins will prIess for the appiroprlation at the comning session of Congress, especially as the obstruc tions 'In question lie wholly within the limits of his Congressional District.
