TIhe ninety-third session of' the South Carolina Conference of the Methodjiat Episcopal Church, South, convened at Newberry, Decemnber 11, 1878. Bishop Pierce, who was expected to preside, being absent on account of sevcre Illness, Bishop Wlghtmnan is in the chair, :I.wi.gve'soui- points relat ing to the~fiit' a'nd second days of the session: Aftei organizing, the Conference proceeded to the examnination of minis ,teral character, under' the question, -"Arc alt the preachers blameless in their life and official administration ?" This feature is peculiar to the Metho dist Church In its various branches, and every clergyman, from the bishop down to the -yeungest mnliister, un dergoes, before the proper body, this examination of character. In this work the Conference is now employ ed. Of.~Its progress and cloao I will write again. . . Let me mention something outside of the current of business. Rev. Samuel Leard preached thme annual .sermon before the Historical Society, tracing the history of this Conference and some of the father's, from the organization in 1792 to 1800.
