Homphill, 0. Barber and A. F. Anderson to the House, in the Mr. Hemnphill have (lone good ser vice before. The other nomineon are new men. GOLD AND sILvER can niow be sent in registered packages weighing not more than four pounds(1 through tihe mail at tihe rate of a cent an onnuoo, and ten cents additional for register ing. In this way a thousaind dollars' wvorth of gold may be transported anywvhere for ;seventy-four cents. As the postal cars will be provided with safes, it is expected that the new law will interfere to some extent with the buasiness of express companies. Text Books. The greatest grievance that has befallen parents of school children in past times is the numberless changes in text books, and the no cessity for buying' a new outfit whenever their children were sent to a now school. Any plan that will prevent this drain on the pa - rental pocket-book is greatly to be desired. The aim of the public school system is, while scuring uniformity of education, also to se, cure uniformity of text books ;. and with a view to the latter, the Legis latuire has authorized the State Board of Examinors to seloct a series which shall be in use over the wvhole State for at least lve years. When these books shall have been fully introduced, a child .moving from one county in the State to another will find tihe same text books in use in both schools Tile State Board adopted at their meeting in Columbia on Wednesday a full series, whieh is given else where. In soveral instances they have adopted a double standard, in order to moot the wants both of bighler and lower graded schools. Thu selections appear to have been carofully mado, and somo viauablo ,accossions to tho school literaturo of the State havo boon scoured. These books will bo introduced in exchango for existing text books at very ro soniblo ratos, not m1ore, we presume, than about one-half the retail price. Pupils will thus bo enablod to re coivod brand now books of improved style at a very moderate prico in exclnge for old dog-eared, ink blurred veterans with contle;s "torn out leavos." Thu book agents will soon be abroad in tho land introducing their wares.
