BAsr BALL.-The Register ol Friday gives the following account of a game of base ball played at Columbia between the Columbia and the Jacksw.'a Crock club : It was gonerally believed upon the stroots yesterday that the Winnsboro boys had coio do.NY1 again to try their skill with thc ball and bat with our own skillfull nine, and quite a crowd assombled to witnoss the contest, which took place at the garrison grounds iij the afternoon. It turned out, however, that the stranger club had coma from Jackson's Creek, and not from Winnsboro, as had been anticipated; whlich fact, as soon as it )ecamje goneral!y known, .soinewhat abited the interest felt in the contest. The Jackson Crock club, a fino body of young fellows, who were handsome ly uniformed, jumpod into the ring at the hour appointed, and did some11 fine playing, but qfter hot strife were defeated fairly and squarely by the Columbia boys, by a score of 20 to 11. Several hundred males were )resent and a few ladies graced the occasion. Lieutenant Batos, of the United States army, acted the part of unilire, and gavo general satis faction (as he always does to con tonding parties) to botl clubs by his fair and impartial rulings. Tho strangers played well, and will doubtless gracefully admit a decided defeat. Winnsboro . will have to snd her picked nine down to Columbia, after all, before it can be decided "which is which" aud "wbc is who." The minimum number of mnou allowved to infantry and eavalry to b< thirty -two, 'exclusive of commis aio nod officers and sergeants;i fo: artillerytwenity-eighit men, exclu, sive of commissioned officers anc sergeants, for a battery of foum pieces. 4th. The drill of infantry and cavalry to include thme "school of th< soldier" and the "school of the com pany" in single rank ; for artillor' to include the "school of the soldie, dismounted," excluding "manual o: the sabre" and "manual of the pis tol." The drhill in~ all arms of th< service to be according to Upton'i tactics. 5th. Each company to be drille( by its own officers in such move ments and such portions of th< manual as the judges may direct. 6th. The judges to be selecte< from persons familiar witlh Upton'i tactics. 7th. The artillery drill to be re stricted to such movements as cai be performed without horses. Al companies of this arm desiring t< do so can use the battery of fou: pieces belonging to the Columbii Flying Artillery, thus saving the ox p)ense of transportinig their owi guns. 8th.
